Honor Program

Is there an advantage in applying for the honors program? Is your GPA weighted in college when you take honors courses, like in high school?

I just want to know.
Thanks

In my opinion, there isn’t really that big a difference between being an honors and non-honors student. The advantages I can think of are:

 1. You have a better chance at being put in Cromwell (only if you prefer it)
 2. You have more FSP options as some are “honor” ones.
 3. You have more choices in profs, as some of the popular ones teach only honors classes.
 4. It might look better to med schools, but I doubt it makes much of a difference.

Disadvantages are:

 1. You’ll probably be placed in Cromwell (if you wanted to live in the towers.
 2. You have to take at least 5 (I think) honors classes before you graduate (could be annoying to work your schedule around taking them)
 3. You don’t get priority housing or scheduling over non-honor students.

Pretty sure GPA’s aren’t weighted so an A in chem is equal to an A in honors chem.

I got invited but decided not to do it, so maybe I’ve missed some things.

That’s pretty much it. No, the classes aren’t weighted. If you aren’t able to fit in the 5 courses then it’s no big deal (it’s a little easier for bio/chem majors to complete them because honors gen chem I and II are offered). I applied because I couldn’t see a reason not to. Being in the honors program was more important to me than living in the towers and I knew I’d be able to complete all the classes.

i’m a freshman in the honors program, and as far as housing goes, it turns out that this year was a big change from previous years. i expected to be in cromwell, but a lot of non-honors people were surprised to receive cromwell assignments too. it looks like it’s a pretty mixed group because i can’t find anyone in my FSP on my floor yet. i know there used to be floors for transfers, but now cromwell is 100% freshman housing on all 6 floors.

I don’t know about previous years but last year Cromwell was not 100% honors as well. The only differences this year are that the 6th floor is freshmen (last year it was transfers) and there are triples. I think a lot of people are “surprised” to get Cromwell because they either thought it was ALL honors or they just figured such a small percent of non honors kids was going to end up in Cromwell that there was no way they would ever be part of that minority.

I’m part of the ‘figured since I wasn’t honors I wouldn’t be put in Cromwell’ crowd. TCNJ apparently let in a lot more freshmen that needed housing than usual, and because of that they pushed back when we even found out our assignments. I think they pretty much have every possible space filled up.

^^ Exactly.

I think they actually told us we would get our housing assignments in early August last year but then we ended up getting them in mid/late July. I guess sometimes they’re early and sometimes they’re late lol.
