Honors classes my sophomore year?

<p>I'm taking AP US History and Algebra 2 Honors next year. I'd rather not challenge myself in chemistry, so I'm doing regular for that. I've done decently in regular English 1 Lit this year (Bs), though I'm not sure if I should do honors for that class next year or not. I mean, the honors class would require more effort, but I heard the regular class is really easy, basically a joke. I'm taking the AP World History (I took Western Civilization Honors this year) and AP Psychology (I'm doing a self-study) exams next year as well.</p>

<p>Will colleges honestly care if I'm not taking honors in Chemistry and English cause of the AP exams I'm taking? I want a history major.</p>

<p>Any other thoughts would be appreciated.</p>

<p>It depends on the rigor you believe you can handle. Personally, I feel you should challenge yourself in every class.</p>

<p>Well, it’s like this. I had a 75 the first quarter of this year, an 82 in the second quarter, an 86 on the midterm, an 88 in the third quarter, and currently have an 87 this quarter, but I did really bad on a test, so if I get a 50% on it I’m doomed for a 72. -___- The honors English 2 teacher is the teacher I have this year, so I’m not totally sure if I’d be able to handle honors with her… though, I admit I’ve been slacking, but it’s better than my 8th grade marks in comm. arts (high 60s…).</p>

<p>So you were a D student in 8th grade, or is your scale different?</p>

<p>English classes in my school focused on literature, and literature is one of those few subjects which are completely devoid of worthwhile educational value unless you want to be a literature major in college. However, if your English classes focus on composition, that’s important (very much so for History majors), take honors, no doubt.</p>

<p>Yeah, I was really bad at reading in middle school, but a jump from Ds to Bs is an improvement, I guess. </p>

<p>Well, this year all freshmen have two English classes, Writing, and Literature, there’s no writing honors class, however. I’m pretty sure that sophomore English two is literature, but AP English Lang and Composition is offered to juniors, so I figured a good course would be for me to get As next year in regular (4.0-4.33 on my GPA), and then take AP Lang and Comp?</p>

colleges love that. especially if you get straight A’s when you push yourself. :]</p>

<p>Don’t bother with honors literature unless you want to, but definitely take AP comp.</p>

<p>Plus I’m taking creative writing as an elective, so I should be fine in terms of comp, provided I do good, no?</p>

<p>Anyway, I think your schedule looks fine. If you don’t want to challenge yourself, then don’t take up the extra work. It seems as if you’ve made your decision already. </p>

<p>But talk to some upperclassmen. I don’t think Chem H should be too much harder than regular Chem.</p>

<p>It’s like, part of me wants to keep it as I’ve been thinking about it, and another part of me wants to change a few things. Bleh, I’m always indecisive. </p>

<p>I asked some upperclassmen, they said that the honors teacher teaches from powerpoints, I mean, I loved middle school chem, but apparently high school chem is supposed to be different.</p>

<p>It’s really just those two classes that I’m not sure about. :&lt;/p>

<p>I only had bad marks in lit, not writing, and I have a 100 in honors Western Civilization right now. -_-</p>

<p>you have to be excellent in BOTH history & english - no matter what aspect of english too . . .</p>

<p>btw it’s just english. unless it’s not your native language it shouldn’t be difficult getting an A. <em>unless it’s AP Lit or AP Lang</em></p>

<p>Well like I said, I slacked this year, I really didn’t develop any sort of interest into reading until this year, thanks for your advice, though. :D</p>

<p>I’ll just talk to my guidance counselor about it and see what she says.</p>

<p>If you didn’t do well in English Lit don’t take English honors. If you’re not a math/science person don’t do Chemistry Honors if you can’t handle it.</p>
