There is such little information available online about the Honors College. Does anyone here have firsthand experience? If so, could you please elaborate upon your experience there?

Also, information on the Computer Science Honors program would be appreciated.

Yeah what's the difference between University Scholars and the Honors College? Other than the fact that University Scholars don't have to write an essay to get in.

hey. my names marina and im a freshman in the honors college at stony brook... i rejected nyu and wesleyan for it, and im happy i did. basically, when you're in the honors college you take seminar courses that replace general education requirements (DECs), and youre required to take those seminars. they involve the entire honors grade and usually have to do with something really random, like we did hamlet and rigoletto and talked about stuff like ghosts and purgatory and a bunch of stuff. we even went to see rigoletto at the met opera house in the city, which was cool. ill tell you right now, if you put a bit of work into it those seminar classes can be fun and theyre not that hard. a good thing about the honors college is that all the kids are housed together so you got your smart bunch that cares about classes living right with you. theres always someone in your class nearby. yeaa, the honors college might be kinda worthless, i dunno yet, its not making a huge impact on my college career so far, but its good if youre into a bit of liberal arts next to whatever else youre studying. university scholars isnt anything special, i think they have priority registration too, but that program doesnt include special classes.

i gotta say, i love stony brook a lot and im the kinda person that really had her heart set on the ivy league and bigshot places. but stony brook, and especially the honors college, is a really good place to study and do whatever else you love outside of your studies.

if you have more questions, just ask

Do you have to apply separately for the honors college?...I just applied and got into the Fall 2007 SOM at SBU..

what is SOM? you mean scholars for medicine?

School of Management- Buisness

Do you have to apply separately for the honors college or is it if your grades are good enough..they give you the option in entering their honors program. And another question, when do you find out if you got a scholarship in SBU.

you have to apply separately for the Honors College.

Fill out a separate app at your school guidance office, and make sure you fax your SAT scores.

There is no way to send SAT scores to the Honors College online.

summerzwow, what were your stats? Can people transfer into the Honors College?

you mean after a semester or two at stony brook? Yes, as long as you have over a certain gpa (3.5 I think it was), and you need to apply.

Is it possible to Transfer into the Honors program coming from another university? That's my scenario right now...

ANYergrl whats your stats in college?
