I see that the Honors LLC is located in the Towers #3. I am very confused about price for the Towers and if they require a year (11 1/2 month) contract as indicated in the freshman housing brouchure online. I am hoping someone who is both LLC and Towers can explain. Trying to save up. Some would be starting in fall 2018
Both my s and d live in towers 3. You must be in burnett or be nmf to live there. It is a 11 1/2 month contract only. You don’t have to leave over Christmas like some dorms. Most rooms are 4 bed/2 bath suites. All have full kitchens and living rooms. The current price is about $8800 per year broken up in 3 payments.
@ufmomfriend Thanks for the info. So, in short, they are expecting you to take classes your 1st summer after freshman year if you are in Burnett Honors college? So I assume if he doesn’t plan on attending his 1st summer, he would need to select another type of housing so he could get just fall/spring.
Can they have someone else stay there who IS taking a summer class? A sublet?
State of florida requires 9 hours in any summer or over any number of summers…if memory serves me. Perhaps this is one of the reasons towers is 11 1/2 contract. Summer classes don’t have to be taken physically at ucf or thru ucf…student can take them online or physically from any other approved school (ie. usf,uf,fsu, etc.) That being said, my s room stood vacant his first summer…yes I know…ouch!! He took 2 online from ucf from home. Some students stay on campus for internships, summer jobs, or just to stay not at home. The campus is pretty sparse during summer except for “camps, special programs and orientations”. I have never heard of a sublease for summer at towers but I do know it is possible to break the contract for a penalty fee. You can call ucf housing directly and ask about both situations…they have always been very helpful to me.
On a side note, I have heard that there is a possibility of getting a summer class requirement waiver if student has many credits or a hardship…I would call registrar or undergraduate admissions for that.
Most dorms at ucf are pretty good compared to other schools…
Did that help at all or just confuse the issue???
Thanks for the info. Yes the summer rule was in place back when I attended USF and was able to take classes a state school closer to home for my summer credits. Back in the old days when there weren’t online classes, just tele-courses offered over the colleges PBS channel at 3am. Lol really dating myself. Thanks again. I guess it’ll be a really discussion of weather he wants to return home that first summer or not and if so, hello Hercules or lake Claire.
I forgot…last year the breakdown was $3440 for each fall and summer and $2200 for summer.
Good luck and I’d love to know what you decide
Ugh, no more text to speech for me. Used wrong weather among many other errors. Lol
Lol!
I’ll be living in Tower III next fall and I’ve been wondering, does a 11 1/2 month contract mean you still need to move out before the next fall? Or, if you sign a new agreement, can you keep the same room without ever having to move your stuff?
If you decide to keep your EXACT same room for the upcoming year, you will not have to move out between summer and fall. You can actually continue to live in your suite during those 3 weeks, but know that maintenance and house keeping will be in your suite (not necessarily in your room) to do repairs and clean for any new people moving in during august move in period.
If you want to change rooms in your suite or change into a different suite in towers 3…you WILL have to vacate
Thanks, that’s very helpful!
Great!
Hi, my son will be living in Tower 3 starting this fall and I have questions - you sound like you are knowledgeable on all things Towers!
How noisy are the rooms? If so, any suggestions for making it quieter? How do your kids divide up the fridge, we were thinking a plastic storage tub to put his food? Do they use the dishwasher at all? I was thinking that everyone in the apartment could bring the same amount of consumables (toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, etc) put them all together and when they as a group run out everyone could buy more. What do you do? Thanks in advance for any advice/thoughts you have (can you tell this is all new to us!)
Lol…not an expert…but thanks for the confidence.
Noisy…the walls are thin in all dorms, but it all comes down to your actual roommates. Bring a small fan or white noise machine to help.
At the beginning of the semester, suite sets up “contract” between suitemates. This of course isn’t binding, but makes expectations clear regarding food, noise, guests, common room, cleanliness, etc.
Both of my kids have a small refrigerator in their own room. You can pick one up for about $100 and this solves a lot of problems…plenty of space in room for the fridge. I told my kids to expect anything they put in common fridge to be eaten or “touched” by whomever!!! Private fridge well worth the piece of mind when he brings in that special dessert or homemade meal from home!!! Yes suitemates do use the kitchen…some cook everyday…and yes they use the dishwasher.
Someone needs to bring a microwave…figure that out among the suitemates…not a big one because there isn’t a lot of counter space…about $40. Same for shower curtain…not provided by ucf. No window curtains or string lights allowed…fire hazard. When it comes to consumables, that also depends on how the suitemates get along. It would be great if everything was shared and equal, but don’t count on it…lol. Ucf doesn’t provide toilet paper.
I could go on and on…ask away…
@KBCNY8, can you share where you are from and ds major…fill free to PM
Son is Mechanical Engineering major (pending of course), we are from Naples. Thanks for all the information! How do your kids get around campus? Are the parking spaces in tower garage assigned? Are either of them in Excel? Marching band? S thinks he wants to do band, not sure if he will have time.
Ucf is large but because of its design, it is very easy to get to and from class. Kids always walk to class even though they have cars. He will need 2 umbrellas…1 to use and 1 to loose…you know the florida weather. Its just not necessary to drive and wouldn’t be worth trying to find a parking space closer to classrooms. The garage is literally a 1 minute walk from their dorm and spaces are not assigned. It is several floors, and I have been told that it just doesn’t fill up…it is permited for towers…no need to worry. Dont forget to get parking permit…less than $200 for the entire year. I have noticed more skateboards than bikes. Some kids actually walk to publix however I would drive there…I think it’s a little too far to haul bags of groceries. Lots of places to eat on campus and cafeteria is directly across from towers 3…another 1 minute walk…lol. It doesn’t require a meal plan and costs $8 or $9 per meal. It is less expensive for my kids to NOT be on the meal plan…depends on your DS. Lots and lots of places to eat right off campus too.
My kids are not in excel nor band.
Are you going to honors orientation in june?
I forgot to mention that there is a place to store bikes on the ground floor of garage.
