Honors College

My son emailed USC, and was told that the McNair finalist notifications are being Fed-Ex'ed today. So if you do not receive a Fed Ex Package tomorrow, then you are not in consideration for the McNair Scholarship. You will receive notification of other scholarships by snail mail.

Fed-Ex isn't necessarily over-night. There's also 2-Day. Did they specifically say over-night?

"We have made decisions and we will send the letters Fed-Ex to Scholar
Finalists today. Those who are not selected as Finalists will also receive
a letter, which will arrive by regular mail. Hope this helps. Thank you
for your patience."

This is the response we received. I made the assumption it would be overnight.

My son is very disappointed - he did not receive a Fed Ex package today. Has anyone officially heard that they were selected?

nope not yet. they probably sent it 2 day.

I got my FEDEX letter. It is overnight delivery, so I am very sorry if you didn't get it. THere's only 50 people in the world that get it.

Hold on now, UltimateFrisbee. I though Carolina Scholars and McNair Scholars are two different things. One's for in-state and the other's for out-of-staters.

spets you are correct.seems like the only ones reporting in so far are the Carolina people, except we don't know where Steeler (in the other thread) is from.
Lets hope!!

We are in Florida, and my son did not hear anything today. He is extremely disappointed. He is a finalist for the Cornell Scholarship at Rollins College (a small liberal arts college), and we were hoping he would be a McNair finalist, too, as USC is his #1 choice. We did, however, receive a letter from the Carolina Alumni Association offering a very small scholarship (I am an alumnus).

yea still no word on mcnair... maybe tomorrow crosses fingers

if you get into the honors college isn't there something that you get instate tuition even if you're out of state?

We were never told that there would be in-state tuition for Honors College admission when we toured the college this summer.

Actually, you don't get instate tuition for admission to Honors College....but you DO get it if you receive a scholarship award. Good luck to those of you who are waiting to hear!!!

I live in TN and have been accepted into SCHC, but have not received notification of McNair scholarship status. I have been keeping up with the admissions process and it appears that there is a bit of a slowdown in the entire system as they have received far more apps this year than any other (13500 for 3500 slots is the quoted expected number). Perhaps there is some connection between the two. Congrats to all fellow SCHC future students and parents of. By the way... I'm still looking for a roommate. Be sure to check out the UCHOOSE section of VIP if you or your son or daughter would like to preselect a roommate. Please email me if you need help doing this, I'd love to meet fellow future students and make a few friends before I go in.

Supposedly, all McNAir scholars have already been notified by an overnight FedEx that was sent last week.

We contacted USC and this is the response we received today.

"All McNair and Carolina Scholar Finalists have been notified by Fed Ex and phone calls. We sent them out on February 1st. We also sent out letters to students who qualified for the semi-finalist screening, but were not selected as finalists last week. We will be sending out further scholarship letters by March 1st."

So this should answer everyone's questions........hopefully.

FYI: more info rec'd from USC

"The Cooper Scholars Award and others will be determined within the next week or so. We have to see what our class looks like before we can say who will be eligible for which award. Once we decide on the award criteria, then we will determine our scholarship winners. Usually it does not vary too much from the previous year."

DD got her letter today telling her she had not been accepted into the Honors College...she was disappointed, but not surprised. She knows she isn't eligible for any scholarships either. Oh well...the school is still on her list because she really likes it. We'll see what happens.

My son got his notification letter today telling him he had been accepted to the honors college.

sorry thumper1
two thoughts..is there a way to appeal? and how interested is she in Capstone..honestly, I think it might be just as nice a program as Honors. And I wouldnt quite cut out the idea of her being eligible for scholarships quite yet.
