Honors College

I don’t have any specific information about CofC wait list either, but in general if you can “show them the love”, I think it can go a long way. If you can send additional LOR, send most recent grades, have him write a note about his interest in the honors college etc. Having said that…I think the CS dept is supposed to be fantastic, honors college or not. Good luck!

My D also received a letter saying she is waitlisted for HC at COC. Good suggestions ELkyes - will do.

S1 is hoping to hear something from HC and has heard nothing. Zip. Crickets…

My D is also waiting to hear about the HC. Still nothing either…

Has anyone heard anything yet?

@SALSRL , our S received an honors envelope in the mail this week.

Great to hear. Hopefully it was good news! Maybe it’s a good sign ours is on its way. Did your son apply with his regular application or after? The HC contacted my daughter in early January after she had already been accepted and asked her to apply. It’s been almost 8 weeks after they approached her.

He applied with his regular application last year, so it took a long time to hear back.Good luck to your daughter! CofC would be a great school to attend. It will be a stretch financially for us as we are out of state, so we’re anxiously awaiting any news of possible merit $.

Thank you for your good wishes. We are also out of state and possible merit $ and admission to the HC would certainly move CofC higher on our list. I was hoping that since they approached her, the wait may be a little less. She loved the school and you certainly can’t beat Charleston! and so we wait patiently…

My daughter received notice from CofC yesterday that she was awarded the Presidential Scholarship and a College of Charleston Academic Scholarship that will fully cover out of state tuition. The award letter was sent via email.

@4332jc, congratulations! What wonderful news!

@4332jc, Congratulations! We are still waiting for news from HC and possible scholarship information. This is starting to get a little stressful :((

Thank you! Best of luck! I hope you hear something soon. It really is stressful to wait (and it’s not even my life!) :">

@4332jc - Thank you to you too! It is not my life either :-* My D has had all of her applications in since the end of October. We never thought we would still be waiting on some decisions at this point. She just wants it over so that a final decision can be made. She is tired of people asking and not having an answer…

S just checked spam folder - Lo and behold, scholarship info from C of C. Presidential + Academic covering almost all of tuition. It was sent about three days ago.

Congratulations!

@SALSRL - have your child check SPAM. My daughter says her letter went to SPAM as well.

Thanks for the info. I will have her check SPAM when she gets home.

Can those of you who got Presidential share test scores and GPA? My daughter wants to apply next year and the only way she will be able to go is if she gets in-state tuition. She has a 3.9 GPA and a 31 ACT. Is that enough? :-<

@NCdad1, Our son’s ACT was 34, GPA 4.0/4.8 unweighted/weighted, rank 1 of 175. I’m not sure how high your ACT would have to be, but your D could retake it this spring and possibly bump it up some.

Our daughter’s school does not rank. But she’s an IB diploma student with a 4.7 weighted GPA, 3.9 unweighted.

SAT: 2240 (English: 790; Math: 690; Reading: 760)
ACT: 34 (English: 36; Math:30; Science: 34; Writing: 35)

If your daughter got a 31 as a junior (which is great), she should take it again early in her senior year. My daughter got a 30 when she first took the ACT as a junior (without studying at all), then early in her senior year, she spent a few weeks reading ACT prep books and taking practice tests here and there and her scores jumped to what you see above.
