Has anyone accepted to College of Engineering received Honors acceptance yet?
Daughter was accepted over the weekend as well!
ACT 36
Gpa 4.3/3.9
In-state
Major- molecular genetics
Big decisions ahead! I think it will come down to OSU or Purdue!
For the students who got honors acceptance on 12/1 - when did you send in the application? When did you get the university and college acceptance? My DD received her general acceptance via email on 11/16.
I cannot tell you when anyone applied but there has only been one wave of acceptances so far this year so they would all have been accepted November 16th.
Hey everyone!! I was accepted to OSU on 11/18 and I received the Morril Prominence scholarship on 12/14. I applied for Honors/Scholars through the Common app but I have not received anything yet. What should I expect?
@lawandphotos i think it depends on whether you applied for the Honors Program or the Scholars Program. As I understand it, there have been some acceptances that have been disbursed for the Honors program. Hopefully, if you applied to that program you’ll hear something soon.
In regards to Ohio State Scholars, the due date to select the preferences for the Scholars programs was this past Monday, December 17 so there haven’t been any acceptances yet to that program.
Good luck and congrats on your Morrill Scholarship. My eldest son is a Morrill Scholar (Distinction) and its been quite a blessing for our family.
Just got an email saying that I was admitted to the honors college!!! Super excited and actually very surprised because I thought my ACT was too low. I got my acceptance before thanksgiving so I expect many people will be finding out soon about honors/scholars!!!
My OOS just received his Honors notification as well. Also received acceptance before Thanksgiving. Good Luck to all.
My son just received his acceptance to OSU in the Dec. 14th round, so if the Thanksgiving round is just now getting their honors acceptance, I imagine my son won’t hear until early to mid. January. I would hope he gets in, he has a 31 ACT, 7/300 rank, 4.4 weighted GPA and great ECs. I think his essay was really clever - he reference Calvin and Hobbes’ last comic strip - https://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/1995/12/31 and talked about how he was excited to explore the next phase of his life. We have a book of all the comic strips on our table, I guess it made an impact on him.
Can you guys actually get into your OSU email? I’m putting it exactly as it should be, and it says it’s incorrect still.
I understand as part of the Honors Program my son will need to live in Taylor, Lincoln or Bradley. Do you know where most engineering majors who are in Honors Program live?
Folllow up…looking for advice when it comes to finding a roommate. OOS doesn’t know anyone else attending and would have to find another honors students to live with.
Both of my kids had great roommates that were matched by housing. They knew other kids heading to Ohio State but heeded OSU’s advice not to room with friends from hs. The questionnaire that OSU housing provides seems to match students fairly well to avoid some typical room mate incompatibility issues. They do get their roommate’s contact information over the summer and can coordinate prior to move in day.
@iamamom3, my eldest son was in a similar predicament back in 2016 entering Ohio State as a freshman OOS applicant without knowing anyone. As @BuckeyeMWDSG states above, OSU will solicit your child to complete a detailed housing questionnaire that will do a pretty good job of matching your child with a roommate. (Being in the Honors housing with similarly academically focused students already sets him up for success on that front.) My son and his freshman year roommate got along so well that they have been roommates each successive semester at OSU. Also, if your son wants I imagine he can use the admitted student Facebook site to reach out to students of similar interests as well. In any event, I would not worry about this issue too much, it is all apart of the adventure of going of to college and a sort of rite of passage in the maturation process.
Thank you @BuckeyeMWDSG and @fatherof2boys - I’m sure it will all work out. You make good points - I ended up being lifelong friends with my college roommate. He doesn’t seem to be worried so not sure why I am. I guess because he’ll be about 8 hours away I am hoping his housing works out.
Does the notification come to our Common App email?
Looks like there’s only one or two engineering honors/scholars residential communities…

My engineering S17 was accepted to the STEM Exploration and Engagement Scholars community, which resides in Houston House. We took a quick tour when he was accepted - it’s brand new and beautiful. I would highly recommend checking it out, if possible.
Hi @STEM2017 ! Do you remember when you were notified that your son got into the scholars program?
Hi @Nasagirl My son was accepted on 11/18/16 but I have no idea when he was notified of the scholars program. I think it was soon after he was admitted but I’m not sure.
@STEM2017 & @Nasagirl, my eldest son was accepted into OSU in November 2015 and we did not receive notification of his Scholar assignment until March 2016. You can check the status of your scholars application by going to the following link: go.osu.edu/scholars
For my youngest son who was admitted to OSU this past November, the link states the following currently: “Thank you for your Scholars program preference submission for Autumn 2019. Decisions regarding your specific program placement will be sent to you via email no later than early April 2019.”
