Just curious, are the invitations sent only to EA applicants? My D submitted RD in January. I have been working with admissions to try to get her file complete but for some reason they can’t seem to match her teacher recommendation. She had to request a second recommendation which thanks to the USPS tracking I know the school received but it cannot be found. Back to topic - are RD applicants considered for Honors Program? If so, are they notified later after acceptances for RD are completed?

NCDANCE MOM:

2 rounds of invites… Go to the link and read the UNC blogposting on this issue(Honors Program):

Gah, I need to get my priorities straight and be studying for my tests, not posting here. Oh well, procrastination is a part of college.

There are some Honors classes that are not offered in regular sections, usually taught by some sort of visit professor who is an expert in the field. Others are essentially more comprehensive versions of regularly offered classes that tend to be much smaller than the regular sections. Honors Econ 101~ 30 kids Regular econ 101~400 kids.

I don’t know how selective it is to apply and be rejected. I vaguely remember hearing a number like 1/4 of people who apply get in once they are here, but I’m not positive. I applied and got in for what it is worth. As far as what is important, taking an honor’s class first semester isn’t necessary (again, I didn’t), but I’d imagine the other parts are pretty important.

I can’t answer the last question because I couldn’t sign up for them at CTOPS, but again, classes open up during the first week.

As far as classes I would recommend, I personally think ENST 201, honors or regular, with Dr. Gangi should be required for everyone at UNC.

Yeah! Finally an invitation for Honors for my S arrived today. It was postmarked 2/9, though, so must have been late because of the snow.

I know this has been asked before but after reading the blog, I still don’t understand. Were honors only given out to the EA students so far or everyone?

It is my understanding that UNC must first ACCEPT you and then a few weeks later the HONORS invite is sent. These two pieces of correspondence arrive at 2 separate times in 2 separate envelopes. S was accepted through portal, a week later hard copy acceptance, a few weeks later (don’t forget the SNOW!)–the Honors invite.
