can get excellent letter of recs from teachers and other adults that can "comment on my character"

o and finally, i think i might be considered as int'l student since i dont have permanent residency yet... and i probably need money

that's pretty much it... thank you for your time!

well as a bio major your bio satII seems weak as do your math scores for a place like JHU. You seem more well rounded, maybe consider a school like northwestern.

wow, you were deferred from JHU with those stats?
what was your exact GPA and courseload?
how were essays, recs, etc?

all I can say about your ECs is they were probably far too common. if you think about it, there are prolly numerous applicants of JHU who want to go into medicine/claim their good at math and thus their biggest ECs are like science olympiad, math accounts, etc. try getting involved in something outside of that, I dunno...i'm guessing there were just other applicants like you but with higher scores. so they took maybe the top 5% applicant with the science/math clubs over you b/c of your GPA. I don't see your SAT scores being the factor for your deferral, either.

the reason I'm surprised you were deferred is because the only two ppl I know, both friends of mine, who applied ED to JHU were actually accepted this past week. one I knew would get in b/c she still had an uw 4.0 with IB and whatnot and decent SAT scores. she wasn't a natl merit semifin. or anything, though (she was close tho). umm, I was shocked to hear the other guy got in. he's a real smart guy but I know he doesn't have perfect grades or anything. both of my friends are majoring in something like biology, too. perhaps their hook was not being involved in things like science olympiad and math counts. their ECs were more well-rounded, including debate, volunteering in general, I think some church activities for the guy, and so forth. one thing I do know is both had heavy hospital/medical-related volunteering (much more than 100)

anyways, don't give up on JHU yet. try your hardest and finish this semester strong enough since it could get you in RD.

thanx for the comments... i'm thinking about applying to upenn and cornell too. what're my chances?

ummm u should have gotten into JHU. with those stats u have a great chance at penn and cornell....unless ur essays/recommendations were bad. get those up and u will be a shoe-in

wow what were those JHU people thinking?? you seem more than qualified.. though it may be easier for in-staters i guess (girl i knew got in last yr didnt have stats as good as yours lol)

i agree; cornell and upenn are good choices but you might also want to look at other selective schools like rice, columbia, etc.

good luck!! hehe im also asian and did much better in verbal than in math

did you apply to BME by any chance?

because thats the only reason i can see them not accepting you.

no i applied biology cuz i have my heart set on med school and i know that hopkins BME is really tough to get in to, and quite honestly, i wanted to increase my chances of acceptance as much as possible (because i love jhu soooo much), so i went the safer route and applied bio.

my essays & recs were great too (my english teacher said that the essay i wrote is one of the best that i've written)

i am REALLY starting to think that my status as an international applicant is what killed me... any comments?
