Housing 2013

Hey y'all! I have been admitted and received my Knights Achievement Scholarship for Fall 2013! I am an out of state student and I don't know where to live for housing, whether on or off campus. I am not the most social person in the world because I don't party, but I love meeting new people and hanging out! I hate old dorms (reason why I couldn't stay in GA and go to UGA) and I would love something that isn't too hard to get too. I actually would love to find a place that I can bring my cat too. (Sorry I love my cat. Parting would be devastating). Any suggestions or help would be AMAZING! Plus I can cook so a kitchen is a MUST. I probably sound like a princess, but I just don't want to be somewhere old or have music blasting all the time. Thanks!

Congratulations!!!

What is the knight achievement scholarship? What were your stats that got you it?

Honestly, you would have to find a non-affiliated apartment complex or a house to cover all of your wants. If you want a kitchen, dorm-wise, the only dorms that have a kitchen are Lake Claire (built a long time ago) or the Towers (much newer). Either way, counter space in them are at a premium.

If you want social dorms to be able to meet new people, Nike, Hercules and Libra are good choices. Nike and Hercules are much newer than Libra, but none of them have kitchens in the room (there is a shared space somewhere in the community for cooking).

Off campus housing has bigger kitchens, but at the sacrifice of not being as social. (e.g. If you were to introduce yourselves to people in your building off campus, they probably just stare at you with a *** look.) Additionally, I don’t think any student housing off or on campus allows pets other than fish. You can try sneaking them in, but you do that at your own risk.

I have a 3.9 GPA and 29 ACT as well as coming in with over 30 hours of dual enrollment credit! I also have lots of community service and a varsity sport.

Wow thanks so much!! My mom suggests that I get an apartment with my priorities, so now it’s just on or off campus. I like the Towers, as well as UH housing and the Arden Villas allow pets but I don’t know how close or nice those are. I of course can give up what I want for what I can afford haha. I loved sterling but I would need to find a roomate for a 2/2! Would being off campus be terrible?

Suggestion and just remember it is just an opinion….During your freshman year, live on campus. All the positives out weight the negatives and leave kitty home. Also the TOWERS are really nice, probably the best UCF has to offer but they require a yearly rental. Good Luck

Thanks! It has been decided to try and get into the Towers and be on campus my first year. They are really nice, expensive, but it would be worth not having to worry about the bus. Plus being a new student, I will probably want to be on campus where everything is happening! Hopefully I can get into the Towers when housing is available in November!!

cheerheart, Great decision to reside on campus your first year! Towers are really nice, and you don’t have to move out over the summer. You can also get your own assigned parking space in the Towers garage, and it’s a quick walk from your apartment to the stadium. Get your housing application in right away in case assignments are still made based on “first come, first served”.

The towers are really nice and will fit your needs but it is way harder to meet people in the towers because they are so nice and private. If a main thing of yours is to meet new people your might consider the Nike dorms. But just letting you know. The towers are nice too. See you at UCF (I’m also going to be a freshmen in 2013!)

I am just like you! I live in GA, was accepted to UCF back in September, and recently got the Knight’s Achievement Award. I also like to have fun (but not party 24/7) and I want a kitchen. I have visited the campus several times, and I love the Towers housing. Although more expensive, Towers offers you a kitchen, private bedroom, and you’re close to Knight’s Plaza. I would get your housing application in asap. Good Luck and I’ll see you there!

Thanks can’t wait to meet everyone! As of now I know nobody!

I’ll try and shed some light on this. I’m a freshmen this year, living in Nike dorm, and I LOVE it. I’ve met so many people (without even making an effort to!) and it’s a really great experience. If a kitchen is a must, I suggest Lake Claire-it’s much more social then the towers, and honestly, I’ve been in the towers many of times, and it’s not worth the price tag you’re paying for it. I really don’t suggest being off campus your freshmen year. From what you said, you’re not a social person, because you don’t party. I do go out, but I’m made PLENTY of friends who are not interested in that scene, at all. From what I know, when you go on campus, you’re more likely to run into individuals who are more into that scene-it’s one of the big reasons people live off campus. Anyone who disagrees with the statement is not being honest with themselves. If you want to meet people, and make friends, you’ll have to make an effort to do so. There’s 60,000 students here-there’s more then enough people who have the same interests as you. I suggest staying on campus, and getting that social experiance. I know how you feel about leaving your pet at home. I’m out of state, as well, and had to leave my dog. But that’s a part of college-it’s about growing up, and figuring out who you are, as a person. But you need to make the effort to:)

Wow thanks so much for that insight! I’m not a non-social person, just I know that I’m not a party person. I have decided to definitely stay on campus, but the Northview apartments just sound so intriguing being brand new… I know the Towers won’t be super social, but I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll cheer and can make friends that way too, as well as by joining clubs!
