Housing 2nd Semester?

I got accepted ED, but I didn't apply for housing and I applied as a commuter student. I'm definitely not excited about commuting, and I've heard from one of my friends who attends that she knew about 5 people who were commuters, and all of them ended up dorming 2nd semester. I was wondering if it was possible to apply for housing 2nd semester, and how much of a possibility there is for them to have any room left.
Also, I've heard that the c/o 2011 doesn't have guaranteed housing all 4 years, and I've also heard that if you haven't dormed since freshman year, you'll continue to have to reapply for housing every semester. I was wondering how much truth there is to this? Is it really that difficult to get housing when you didn't apply for it as a freshman?

You are guaranteed housing all 4 years if you dorm the whole way through. If you leave the NYU housing system at any time (which you already have), you will not be guaranteed housing. Everyone has to reapply for housing each year, but the problem is that you will now be put on the waitlist every time. Usually you will get a room by 2nd semester because so many people leave for study abroad, but the likelihood of you getting a room 1st semester is more difficult to say.
