Housing Assignments

If you decide to bunk your beds, your room will have to have “bunk-able” beds, meaning that one person’s bed should have short posts and the other person’s bed should have tall posts. Then, the short bed can go on top of the tall bed. Basically, the beds are stacked on top of each other, but you do not have to do it yourselves. Maintenance will bunk or un-bunk your beds as needed, especially since if you bunk your beds more support should be added so they don’t fall off each other. You do not get a ladder – you climb on to the top bed. The way the beds are made, there is basically a ladder built into the lower bed already so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Thank you! That was helpful :)

thank you about the info on mcafee!
i actually have another question that might seem unusual…
do students who have carpeted floors take like mini vacuum cleaners? just wondering…

The dorms have full-size vacuum cleaners that live in a common space and get borrowed and hoarded and moved around, making a vacuum unnecessary to buy, but sometimes you have to hunt for it or send threatening messages to your hall conference.

If you really need a mini cleaner in your life, buy one, as it’s not unknown to have one, just unnecessary for most. The big thing to keep in mind is that compact vacuums don’t work as well as real vacuums (when they work).

Hi, I found out that I’m dorming in Pomeroy (I think 102) but I never visited this dorm… can anyone give me more information about this hall? All I know about it so far is that it has a vegetarian dining hall and wooden floor.

Hi, I found out that I’m dorming in Pomeroy (I think 102) but I never visited this dorm… can anyone give me more information about this hall? All I know about it so far is that it has a vegetarian dining hall and wooden floor.

Pom has a great community – a lot of people live there all four years. Pom even had something like ‘I <3 Pom’ shirts before. The quad res halls are smaller than the others so the first year community is really close-knit. Everyone pretty much leaves their doors open all the time so everyone can walk in, say hi, start random conversations in the hallway, etc. Paula, the Residential Director, is great with first years… really friendly.

Pom 102 is a quad facing room on the main floor. That room in particular might be a bit noisy because you’re right near the main entrance to the reshall, though I don’t think my friends who lived there had much of a problem with that. I feel like first years who live in the main floor of a quad res hall really get a close bond with the rest of their floormates just because the main floor has fewer people than the rest of the floors and it’s mostly first years who live there.

welles10 thank you so much for the info! I’m really glad that Pom sounds like a pretty social hall… having not heard too much about this hall, I was worried that it would be too quiet and studious. What do you think of the dining hall food? Kosher vegetarian food will definitely be new for me!

Yeah… I first tried it last year and it was new to me too! The Pom dining hall definitely has the best salad bar on campus by far – great selection. There is a good variety of cereals (though no Lucky Charms because gelatin isn’t kosher) and ice cream just as anywhere else on campus.

For me, the main entree food has been hit or miss. I tried some very good items and some that were more iffy. Tofu, of course, was incorporated into a lot of the food – if done well, you couldn’t tell at all; if not done well, then you were eating tofu that “looked” like a burger or a taco or something else (then again, I’m sure we’ve all experienced that at some point in our lives). There was also a general selection of rice, beans, pizzas, etc. All in all, it takes some getting used to but it’s actually really good healthy food.

Also, this year we are switching dining hall providers from Sodexho to AVI Fresh so I am not sure how much the menu/facilities will change. The Pom dining hall will be the only dining hall in the immediate Quint area besides the Campus Center (open for lunch and dinner) so Pom will have to cater to a large number of students. If you don’t like the food in the beginning of the year, let the dining hall workers know or write something on a comment card/send an email – they are responsive to student requests. I had a friend who really wanted chocolate chip pancakes and she requested so much that they had chocolate chip pancakes every weekend!

Here is the website to AVI Fresh. They are still updating it so check back later on this summer for updates on menus and other news: http://wellesley.avifoodweb.com/

Can anyone tell me more about Tower West? :)

What room? I’ve lived in 154 and 334, both of which are occasionally occupied by first years…

I’m in 239

based on the number of the room, I can tell you that you are on the outer corner of the building, either on the north side or one of the first rooms down the west wing of the building, but I don’t know which one. I don’t have the floor plan anymore, but the rooms in the corner are either more than 2 people (you would know) and the first few down the wing which are doubles are slightly bigger than the higher numbered TCW rooms.

Also, you’ve probably all seen this page, but it’s brand new and I haven’t (boy it makes me nostalgic)

Hey I’ll be a first year next year and this(TCW 239) will be my room! Can you tell me more about it?

Hey kickit I’m in stone 008. Anyone know what the bathrooms are like? How about my room?
