Housing Assignments

So...what dorms did people get assigned?

vcw for sure. what did you end up with?

I ended up with Harbin and I’m cool with it. I am so glad that I did not get Darnall.

for sure dude – i don’t care what people say about it not being that bad and the community very tight nit – it would have been a catasrophe.

maybe that’s a hyperbole but i’m satisfied. harbin seems pretty chill, too, no doubt. they’re cluster thing seems legit.

I got harbin too, 702!

I’m two rooms down from you :)

darnall - a catastrophe? that’s some intense lingo right there kid. i lived in darnall my freshman year and it was the best year of my life. im a junior now, still love gtown, but wish i could go back. for any of you assigned to darnall, you’ve got a lot of good times to look forward to.

When the floors stink, your far away from the dining hall, your rooms are small, and the elevator is slow, I’d find it hard to say that I have good time to look forward to.

And on a side note, the whole Darnall being a “tight” community is a bunch of bull. It’s just a rationale that everyone who got Darnall says so they can feel better about residing there.

and just note that i did say maybe calling it a castrophe was hyperbole.

whatever, to each his own. i’m glad you enjoyed your freshmen year. hopefully, we all will have memorable years as well.

Freshman dorm preferences are all relative. You’ll find that your experiences are defined by the people you meet anyway. I myself lived in Darnall, knew all 50 people on my floor, and wound up with a fantastic group of friends that I met on my first night at Georgetown. Despite some of its obvious physical drawbacks, Darnall indisputably has the most communal set-up. The walk to the dining hall was less than ten minutes (which is only “far” in terms of Georgetown’s small campus), and Leos is less than stellar so I wouldn’t be too concerned with how close you are to it. Leavy and the new Epicurean restaurant are alternative options that you will find yourself choosing far more often than you anticipate.

My boyfriend, on the other hand, lived in Harbin and had a very awkward cluster that never really became close. As you’ll ultimately realise, your luck ultimately comes down to the people who get placed around you.

That said, I hope you all find reasons to be excited about your various housing assigments. My friends and I like to joke that we would sacrifice our townhouse to live in a dorm and be freshmen again. Good luck!

Not going to drag this on because it doesn’t really matter, but again, while I’m sure you all will be happy with your respective housing assignments, I was writing to kids in Darnall, who going in often feel like they’ve been screwed over. I had to go through 2 months of kids posting on Facebook about how much college was going to suck because of their freshman dorm only to make more friends in Darnall than they ever could have imagined. Also, since it seems like you have not even spent a day at Georgetown, I’d just like to quickly rebut everything you said so any Darnall kids on this forum know they have stuff to look forward to.

The floors stink - Not even sure what this means. Darnall’s main draw is that it has the most communal setup of all four freshman dorms - rectangular floor with large common room and communal bathrooms. Almost everyone keeps their doors opened or at least unlocked. It is such a blast.

You’re far away from the dining hall - It’s a seven minute walk, tops. You’ll find Georgetown is a walking campus. It’s good for you. You’re also right next to Epicurean, the Leavey Center, and a host of other facilities.

Your rooms are small - No freshman room is large. While Darnall is smallest (after Village C), it forces you into the common room, where you will meet a ton of awesome people. Trust me, it’s a blessing in disguise.

The elevator is slow - It’s a six floor building. If you’re on the first three floors, you walk. If you’re on 4-6, you wait a minute. There are two elevators. They move at a regular pace. It’s not the end of the world.

And on a side note, the whole Darnall being a “tight” community is a bunch of bull. It’s just a rationale that everyone who got Darnall says so they can feel better about residing there - Not even sure why I’m addressing this considering 1) you have no clue what you’re talking about; 2) you have not been a student at campus for even a day; and 3) it’s puzzling to me why you seem hellbent on upsetting people who got Darnall but, once more, this could not be farther from the truth, which the 300+ kids who got put in the dorm will be lucky enough to see for themselves.

Anyway, hopefully if any Darnall kids are out there, this enables you to go into school with a positive attitude. All freshman dorms are unique, but you were most definitely not screwed over. I live in a townhouse and I would go back if I could in a heartbeat. So would my friends from the floor. Enjoy!

I never really understood why people living in other dorms seem to receive such satisfaction from bashing Darnall, especially people who have never set foot on campus, and are thus attempting to piece together a contrived reality from rumor and conjecture. It is almost an insult to your intelligence really.
