Housing Results 2006!!!

Well Hayden was my first choice as an ED student but I picked low cost.

My estimated charge is 5582.50, and I put U-Hall as my top choice.

Regular housing: Those with $5582 probably got Hayden, Weinstein, or Goddard. Those with $7000+ probably got University Hall or Third Ave North. Those who got $4140 probably got Rubin or Brittany.

Low Cost: Those who had around $3000 probably got Low Cost Rubin and those who had about $4000 probably got low cost Hayden. Those w/ about $5000 probably got low cost Third Ave North.

If your in Rubin, I think it says so. I already knew I was in b/c of CHOICES, but it also says so on my current activity (literally: "Housing-Rubin"). Costs this year are probably higher for most dorms, by the looks of it, and I doubt the page this year reflects it accurately. Best bet is to email NYU, though.

I have the same concerns about the 14 meal/wk. plan, though. They automatically put that on everyone's, and you can change but I don't know how yet. I have contacted the Bursar and when I find out I will post it here so everyone else knows.

I agree, though, housing cost is insane. Mine is just $4140 a semester (regular Rubin, I wanted low cost Rubin...grrrrrrr) and I've had to adjust my "budget" already.

they automatically give you 14 m/w... you can change it later but if your in trad. dorms you have to have at least 10 m/w.
idk how to change it. :-/

I'm so depressed. There is no way I can afford that.

Should I call them?

Ya, I am a transfer and as you guys mentioned before it does NOT state which place im rooming (next to the cost). However, I dont understand how I got stuck in probably the most expensive place when i asked for LOW COST HOUSING. Im really hoping this "estimate" is far more than its going to actually be.

I will probably have to call NYU when I get some time off of work because I cant afford to allow the price of attending to keep growing. UGH - this is killer.

Depends on when you applied. ED gets first choice b/c they apply for housing first. Then, so on...

Ya, I just cant get over how much this is going to cost me now. Whats next, a premium meal plan that I cant get out of? JK, but seriously, im dead.

Guxs, dont freak out just yet. We KNOW that the LCTs in Rubin are around 5k for an entire year, and the odds that all of us requesting them and none of us getting them are pretty slim. I think that we alk got a LCT, just not in our 1st choice dorm--LCT takes priority over dorm preference. That would explain why ED kids arent getting 1st choice.

mine said 5585.50. Im convinced im in Rubin and that the 5k is for the entire year.

I am trying so hard to not freak out but it's hard. lol

I need a low cost. Very badly.

However, on a myspace group, two people did not request low cost and got the same amount as me.

You're not in Rubin (unless of course it says so on your sheet, which I don't believe it does). Mine says $4140 and if yours was $5585.50 (and they aren't going to end a cost with fifty cents, anyways...it would be rounded and therefore that amt. can only be 1/2 of your cost) then you would have have to be low cost and that amount be your total for the whole year, not one semester...because Rubin reg. rooms don't exceed $8000 and would certainly not be (5582+5582=)$11000. These estimates are for a semester. Not the full year. How do I know? Because of my cost. I've already been told (both by the bill and by CHOICES) that I'm in Rubin. My cost $4140 is exactly half of a reg. room in Rubin ($8280).

If these estimates really are for the whole year...then NYU lowered dorm costs by $3000 or more for almost every dorm. I'm not buying that.

You are probably in Hayden, Weinstein, or Goddard. You may have even been placed in Third Ave North. Who knows...

I'm making a new thread for info how to change your meal plan, for those interested.

Is there any way to change dorm assignments if it is for financal reasons?

Hey everyone! NOW go look at your current activity on Albert!!!!!!!!

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! ATTACK OF THE TUITION & FEES WE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT!!! LOL. Oh god, it's starting.... :D

What's going on here?

Mine doesn't have tution yet.

Hey lindseygs...

I'm in CHOICES at Rubin, too! :D Looks like we'll be living on the same floor together next year.

Outono Noite - the reason you didnt get what you requested is because you're a transfer, right? the way i hear it, transfers absolutely never get the dorms they want and always get the worst end of it all. they already had major housing issues just getting the people who've already been going to nyu for a year or more settled so im sure they had a hard time even finding places for transfers.

and yeah, mine says "Housing - Goddard $ 5,270.00" (which exactly half of what the website estimates for the year). does anyone else have a thing that says "Anticipated Loan - Perkins $-1,200.00" on their current activity page? I do, and im not sure why, cuz i haven't taken out any loans yet (/dont know how to). i dont have the tuition bill up yet though.

also, if you go back and look to older posts like in nyuhousing on livejournal, youll see lots and lots of occasions where nyu has screwed up and lots of people who request LCTs dont get them, but then people who DONT request them do. i mean, this may not be entirely finalized, esp if it just says estimated (although i think that should change relatively soon), but there IS still a chance that you wont get an LCT just because you requested it.

Thanks Scrapnel - ya I understand with the whole housing situation they have. As for the Perkins loan, yes, I have that too but only for $1000. It just means they think youre going to accept that loan when the paperwork comes early Auh/Late July.

I've got the Anticipated Loan estimate as well. It's probably because it's the amount on the awards letters, and I haven't taken out loans yet either. I'll probably take out loans from hesc.org.
