Housing Status

Does anyone know the exact day that we will be finding out about housing? It said mid-july, and now is kind of mid-july. My mom have started going shopping for dorm necessities, and it would be helpful to know where I'm living to see how much space I will have. =P

They aren’t sending out housing contracts anymore, sorry. I would start looking for another place to live. Refer to my thread where I received an email response directly from housing.

he didn’t ask if they were sending more house contracts.
Apparently last year they sent dorm assignments July 10th, which was a friday
i was hoping they’d send them today but i guess not

nvm.10 char

Is it possible to get out of the housing contract with Castilian dorm if you somehow get your housing contract from the University anytime soon? Because if they let me out of the contract, all I’d be losing is $250 which is not much compared to the convenience of a whole year of an on campus dorming.

Hi: check the website for housing status; simply use your ut eid and password and go to I think it is My Housing and it may be there or be there soon.

yeah i just keep checking every single day. I’m really nervous about which dorm i got =P

and yeah TMT I already have a housing contract. I’m just waiting to find out which one of my top 5 choices I got.

if they sent them out july 10th last year then it should be any day now! yay :)

Nxt-- read the contract you signed with Castilian. After May 1st, at Dobie, students forfeit more than the deposit. They may be on the hook for some rent as well, depending upon when and if Dobie can re-lease the room, etc. I suspect Castilian might have a similar provision.

Nxt, you don’t really realize it, but the Castillian is MORE convenient than a whole year of on-campus housing. You don’t realize it yet, but after a year on campus you will.

The on campus dorms are in a horrible location unless you spend all your time in the library and the gym–I hope for your sake you don’t.

The off-campus dorms are even better located to the Texas Union, which has a lot going on as well.

ranger I really hope I like Castilian, especially the food b/c I am planning on eating a Lot this year and take weight training both semesters. How much will I be missing out living on campus b/c I really don’t like people locked in their dorm rooms, if that happens @ off campus and “I” just feeling lonely as sh** and the on-campus peeps enjoying their time.

@theloneranger

Unless you have a ton of classes in the UTC and the College of Business Administration like I do, that is very close to the on campus housing.

well I guess then I would need to change my location for 3rd and 4th year if School of Business is not nearby.

Nothing on campus, or a couple of blocks off campus, is very far from one point to another. I lived in Kinsolving my freshman year in 1982-83 and Castilian my sophomore year and it was a ten minute walk (oh, the horrors) to McCombs. Loneranger’s statement about being more centrally located by living in Castilian is spot on.

Nxt, given the number of threads you’ve created and commented on, you seem far too stressed out. Just chill. McCombs is great (Finance grad here) and UT as a university is awesome. Take a deep breath and relax. :)

Someone at orientation said july 15th or 16th

I just lost my job so I now have nothing to do besides studying for the Psychology Clep. I am also going into Finance (corporate or banking) and doing MIS as a minor & then a Masters right away (b/c family circumstances don’t allow me to stop studying for even one semester…chances of me going back and completing my studies are very slim so I want to get a Masters at least while I am on it). Anyways, how was your experience during 3rd and 4th years and how well-placed are the job opportunities for a finance major, when the economy is not in the gutter. Do you sometimes regret that you should have gone into Accounting for more in-depth knowledge of the material and somehow ending up getting better job opportunities? ps: I am not a bean-counter but would definitely weigh opportunities.

Nxt, I’m not sure to whom your query regarding a Finance degree was directed, but if I were you I would minor in Accounting and not in MIS. The job situation now is similar to the mid-80’s when I graduated in that the numbers of jobs in Finance are more limited given the state of the banking industry. A minor in Accounting would help you get part-time employment while in graduate school. A MIS minor will not benefit you as much in getting a job–those jobs are moving to India.

Have you considered an MPA?

I did look into the MPA program but I am afraid I will not enjoy accounting for the next four years at UT as much as finance or economics but I do realize that I will need a good understanding of financial statements in order to excel in finance. I am assuming there will be much more dedicated students who are eager and willing to learn accounting for fun and as a major than me, and then competing in that kind of pool makes things difficult.

Although I do like the idea of Majoring in Finance with a minor in Accounting, I am concerned about the increasing applications of information systems in almost any area of business, especially finance and accounting. UT offers a technical and analytical track for MIS (idk that’s its new or old) but I was planning on pursuing the analytical track taking three more classes such as Data Mining and Business Process Excellence to complete the minor. If the growing technology used in all businesses now days wasn’t an issue, I wouldn’t think twice before declaring accounting as a minor. I am not sure if outsourcing is or will be an issue for UT students, especially since there is more demand and less supply for MIS graduates at least from UT. Its just a matter of three courses that I could either take in MIS or Accounting so is technology (MIS) something a student could learn on their own throughout his first job or by taking a few courses at a community college OR is it…

Also, just so you have additional info in mind when replying to the post, I plan for a Masters degree (for sure) in something after my bachelors, whether it be in Finance and Accounting, Economics, or Global environment (new huge issue) or whatever area of study I have in mind at the end of my senior year.

…this is a housing thread, no hijacking please

thank you queen! =P i was reading through the posts and i was thinking, “whoa what did this thread turn into…???”

samster: oh really? I didn’t hear anything about it at orientation, but I’m glad that someone was listening. :)

gahh u haters…ill just go somewhere else
lol jk
sry bout that
