how are tattoos viewed?

I kind of want to get one, but everyone around me seems to associate it with trashiness and advises me not to get one because it will hurt me in the future (like when I'm seeking employment). and my mom might kill me but 8D she wont know anyways hehe

so the question is, is there really a stigma attached to tattoos?

why do you want to get one? because it looks cool?

Yeah, there is.

no because i learned something i don't want to forget. i guess if i do get one ill get it somewhere that will be covered by clothes

I view them as mistakes.

Well, no one here can stop you from getting one. Personally, i don't like them. When i ask someone why they want one, 75% of the time they give me the same answer you gave me: They want to remember a significant event. I believe that if the event is really that significant, then you won't forget it no matter what; you really don't need a tattoo to remind you; but if it really means something to you, go ahead and get it.

Think about old people's skin. Then think about old people's skin covered in tattoos.

Yeah.

I'm personally dreading the future, when all those baby boomers that got tattoos back in the day will have saggy skin... EEK!

you only live once. and they look cool. i think as long as they having meaning and aren't too big, unsightly and in plain view they are fine.

there are many ways of remembering things you don't want to forget...besides getting a tattoo

Just don't get it where it'd be visible by employers, and you're good.

Gosh, tattoos are viewed as sexy, productive, extravagent.

I love females with tattoos on their....

nevermind.

I view them as mistakes.

Agreed.

sure, but what better way than to have an artistic display of that memory tattooed on one's body? i think it's really cool.

...i would advise against any tattoos of anyone's name. that always ends in disaster.

I don't care what ugly to average girls do. But for hot girls, why tarnish an already beautiful body no matter how artistic it is? Ink can't improve upon the preexisting sexiness.

True. If you are really stuck on a certain symbol or whatever, get a picture of it and hang it on your wall in a place that you will see daily. You don't need to get it now, it can wait a few months/years.

Many people turn 18 and they are like "Yeah lets get a tattoo" and they get the stupidest things although "it reminds them of an important thing in their life."

Tattoos in Oklahoma aren't as widely accepted. When I see a guy with one, I think "Oh, he was in the army/navy/marines" or I think "What white trash". There are the also the people that get memorials of their friends tattooed on them...which I understand was a big deal to them, but seriously, no.

Even though you say your mom will never find out, she will. If you do get one, get it where you have to make an effort to show it to someone. It shouldn't be something you have to worry about covering up or have to worry about it slipping out.

I'm totally with you on that one. Tattoos only ruin your appearance.

If they aren't overdone and if you won't feel guilty as you age,,it must be fine.

Tattoos are...okay. If it is something that is really cool, kinda small, and in memory of something, then that is cool. If it is something for no reason like a lower back tattoo (screams ho), then it is just plain dumb.
