How come everyone on this website seems to be like so smart? They have like many awards and they are taking rigirous courses. How do they come by these programs and stuff. My school doesn't have that many good clubs and stuff so I don't think I could join them and have a good resume as the people here. Also they are applying to very elite schools.

How do you come by these programs? Where can you find them?

i know what u feel like, my school doesn't offer any high-end or nationally recognized activities either - I just heard about olympiads on this site.

if u want to go to MIT or something like that, just do research of some kind - find a local professor or something

the people who don't care that much where they will be going to school, or applying to the other 3000 schools in the country that are very predictable, don't need it.

Also, people who don't try really hard in school aren't going to try really hard in getting all the information that's out there about colleges.

I know exactly what you mean... either everyone on this site will be the future alumni of Harvard, or they're just a whole bunch of liars here... and I'd go with the latter.

CC serves everyone really. I don't know why you think most people are posers....I mean many of us are at college and have been through the process and have spent time on many different campuses. If you are looking for a top school then don't bother reading those threads.....post what you are looking for and people will be gracious and help you.

Also, most of us want to brag about how great we are. You can't just walk up to people on the street and say "Hi, my name is Bob! I'm valedictorian at my elite prep school, have an unweighted GPA of 4.89, have an internship with the National Institutes of Health, am a private student of Yo Yo Ma, AND was named prom king! Oh yeah, and I'm the president of ever club in my school." Yeah, you can't do that anywhere but here. Then you can pretend to act all modest and insecure and be like "I might have invented a cure for cancer, but can I get into Harvard?" Then a bunch of jealous people, or people with similar stats will be like "Nah, Harvard is a reach for everyone. Maybe with really good essays. Oh, and that 2390 on your SAT? You might want to bring that up a little."

Right and you don't need to hear about any of it at school the next day....plus nobody here knows how anyone looks it is all discussion and stats. How pure.

Plus, the anonymity of it all is somewhat comforting. From personal experience, it's pretty difficult to talk to people you know about college unless if you're at like the exact same level. Even our valedictorian was on here questioning whether he'd get into Harvard and Princeton. He couldn't have just gone up to anyone in my school and been like, "Yo, I know I'm valedictorian and all, but it's still really hard to get into Princeton. What do you think?" It's kind of like a slap in the face. (By the way, he didn't get in, but he's quite happy with his choice of Dartmouth).

I really don't think most people fake their stats. First of all, people have better thing to do; secondly, it would get them nowhere.

Yeah, I actually DID go out tonight, dancing. No really, I did. It was pretty freaking boring though. Plus I have to get up early tomorrow for "new employee orientation" which is the dumbest thing on earth since (a) I've been working at this place for two months and (b) this is my last week.

Who are the sons of presidents? Anyway, they can't compete with me. I'm the ex-leader of the Soviet Union.
