How competitive are AFROTC scholorships?

Im looking to attain an AFOTC scholarship in Computer Science, but I was wandering how competitive they are to attain. I know there are a few different types of scholorships.

afrotc scholarships are the most competitive of three services' rotc programs. there are three types of AFROTC scholarships...type 1 will pay full tuition almost anywhere for four years, type two pays 15 grand a year for only the last three years, and a type 7 will pay 9000 a year for four years.

On the bright side, the AF is looking for computer science majors, so that plays in your favor.

I had my interview for the scholarship sometime late February, so i'm eager to hear back from the selection panel as well as the Academy. I've become a slave to both :[. I am trying to get a scholarship in Aeronautical Engineering though... good luck to you!

In advance of the AFROTC application deadline, my son and his school mailed all required materials. A month or so after mailing, he checked on-line and the website showed his application status as completed.

3/9 he checked again, not having heard anything. The status showed 'Missing extracurriculars'.

In speaking with the ROTC Counselor this morning, he advised there was nothing that could be done for this year and my son would have to reapply for next year.

AFROTC was a back-up plan for my son should he not get an appointment to the Academy or prep school, so while frustrating and upsetting, not the end of the world.

I post this for those who are more invested in the AFROTC; be sure to regularly check status and contact your counselor at least every two weeks. Same should be said for the Academy.

My son was just notified he received the Type 2 AFROTC scholarship. That's good news, but his heart is set on the Academy.

Just note:

about 1% of scholarship recipients receive the full tuition/fees. about 10ish% receive $15k/year for 3+years, and the vast majority are offered the <$9k. if you receive the <$9k, you can convert it to $15k/year for 3 years.

FYI: Type 2 is now 18k per year. There was a special note in the packet.

g0gat0rs23, your numbers are wrong according the AFROTC website.

Type 1: 5%
Type 2: 20%
Type 7: 75%

^^ I have spoken with the coordinators on this. They told me that my numbers were the ones that were good this year. I received a type 7, but I also received a full scholarship from the Navy ROTC, so I asked the AFROTC ppl if I could get my application into the pool again so I could have a chance at the full tuition scholarship. That's when they hit me with the numbers I previously stated, and advised against it.

I'm not being provocative, but I trust people more than I trust web sites.

I fully completed my AFROTC application by going to an interview on 18th Feb. The application was updated online a few days later. My question is, would this application have made the March board or will I have to wait until April? Just curious...

One thing to realize, as the economy goes south and college becomes more expensive, more people will compete for a scholarship, making it more difficult to receive the golden ticket.
