I am a junior in high school right now and am starting to already stress about college. UGA is my dream school but I’m unsure about getting accepted.
I’m in all AP and honors classes and this year I have a 3.78 unweighted gpa but freshman and sophomore I had a 3.9. I have a 4.4 weighted but UGA doesn’t look at weighted I heard.
I am a first generation college student and have a butt load of extra curriculars (beta club, xc, track, mu alpha theta, fca leadership, hosa, nhs)
Am I on track, please don’t sugarcoat it. Also if u have been accepted to UGA what are the reasons u think u got in?
A few things that you mentioned caught my attention:
You heard that UGA doesn’t look at weighted GPA, but they calculate their own GPA for you given the rigor of your basic core classes. So if you are taking harder classes that will definitely be to your benefit.
Also, you mentioned that you have a butt load of ECs. I would focus on being more involved in a few ECs rather than dabbling between clubs and not doing much. That looks a lot better on applications.
Plan on taking both the SAT and ACT and prepare for both - see which one you like the best and take it a second time and study before and practice your weaknesses.
I would say that you are on track for the most part as long as you are keeping your junior year grades up, because this is your most important year. Colleges typically wouldn’t accept a student with a negative grade trend.
Hope I helped and ask me any other questions if you need.
Google the Common Data Set for the University of Georgia. Go to the section for admissions & it will set out the importance that UGA places on admissions factors. Interesting, that “state of residence” is not considered for admissions (but is for tuition purposes).
