How do I warm my parents up to the idea of me going far away for college?

Are you sure the reason your parents want you close is a financial one? Block scheduling is where you focus on one course per month, right? If that’s what you’ve been doing, maybe your mom and dad just want you to try a more traditional schedule close to home where they can help you if you need it.

Why are you getting money for school but your sister isn’t? That doesn’t seem fair unless your parents have already paid for her undergrad and she’s in grad school. I think you need to talk to your parents about your expectations and find out how much money they’ll contribute per year to your education and what stipulations they attach to that money.

Oh, and “perfect” kids don’t talk about their mothers the way you do, nor do they rationalize trying to get dad to say ‘yes’ when mom says ‘no’ by saying mom earns less so her opinion isn’t as important. Perhaps this has more to do with maturity and respect than money.
