OK, so I'm like a big over-achiever where I come from. And I let everyone know about it. This cockyness, I am sure, is the golden path to winning school elections. However, now that that's over, its my biggest character flaw. I'm crazy self-centered. I've been to places and I've seen geniuses, much like these people that roam these boards, but that hasn't done enough, well I'll admit I'm better than before but its still bad. So what can I do about this? Its hard when you are a self-centered teenager, like me.

Hmmm, well I know there was this one completely arrogant girl in our school, and I'm going to be frank with you, she was hated by everyone because her personality absolutely sucked. Like one time when we were discussing how there would be no honors level senior english and so she said, well couldn't there be a super-AP. And since that day people have especially disliked. So yes she's incredibly intelligent, but at the same time incredibly foolish because she turned down Columbia for Stevens. She claimed money, but in reality she was totally broken once she got rejected from Princeton, so basically the moral of the story is don't be an ass, or everyone will dislike/hate you.

Thanks for that anecdote tony, its a weird situation for me. I''m not of those people who will be like "OMG you got 70 on that test what a dummy!" In fact I'm on the television doing the morning announcemnts and I do them in a non-boring way so everyone likes me for it (at least to my face i.e. getting lots of compliments so much so I'm worried about insincere ones but thats another story). I'm a glad hander and speak very politically. Its just I give off an ambiance of "I'm better than the rest of you" and I would liek to change that.

LMAO what an idiot girl! Stevens over Columbia? Good Lord. Mikenthemadddog66...if you haven't applied to any schools and received any decisions yet, just wait for some of those rejection letters to roll in. I think that'll fix your problem. :)

OK, I can relate to that too, I was rejected from every prep-school i appled to. That probably helped temper it a bit. I'm just worried the GC and teachers will check of the arrogant box on their rec forms.

lol oh yeah that would suck...i think most everyone that is smart is a bit arrogant, they just find a way to conceal it. basically for me, i do my work and then take school off of my mind. i don't discuss grades, and i don't discuss schoolwork outside of school. there's no reason in telling everyone that you have a 4.0, 2200+ SATs, blah blah blah b/c it only matters in college admissions. other than that, life goes on.

neat...........

Why is kike not censored? (I'm not a jew, I'm a WASP :))

b/c most people, like myself, don't know what kike means.

but now i know that it's some kind of jewish put down.
i still don't follow the "apple apple" part.

and i don't know if he's a wasp, but definitely a troll. a dirty, dirty troll that lives under the bridge in a swamp in lousiana.

nah i'm a dude...if you're in my closet, i'd suggest you come out.

if you happen to come out of the closet, i'd prefer it if you left my room.

I think a little arrogance/cockyness in a person is fine, if you have the goods to back it up. Hollow self-centeredness is another thing, but I admire people who have the kind of boundless confidence and iron will to believe that they can accomplish absolutely anything in this world, come Hell or high water, if they give it their all.

Most people don't have that. I think it takes a kind of "warrior" mentality, in a way.

to lose the arrogance...read as many books as you can. then realize that you don't understand half the stuff in them. that bursts your bubble pretty quick. right now i'm reading A World Lit Only By Fire (it's a history book on the Middle Ages) and i don't really think i'm that smart anymore because it's really making me think :)

Hit on a big guy's girlfriend. That'll teach you.

you'll grow out of it

jimbob, i read A World Lit Only By Fire sophomore year for AP Euro... I didn't like it that much.

reading books won't make you any less arrogant... (unless you're reading The Bible or something)...

it usually goes away once you start becoming older/wiser/etc...you begin to have an appreciation for life that you didn't have before...you deal with people more appropriately and become more considerate of those around you...

this can not be said of everyone, but it does hold true for most people...you eventually start to mature without realizing it

You probably aren't as arrogant as you think you are... you did win the elections, didn't you? Which comes to show that people like you.

And you're not grade-cocky. A DEFINITE plus.

Try listening more and talking (especially about yourself) less. It's simple, easy to do and you'll find people will like you.

To the OP, my fraternity brothers sometimes think i'm cocky as hell. The best thing is do is talk less and start to listen more, read inspirational books (and realize you are no more than an arrogant little s**t who thrives on your parents), watch inspirational movies, etc. All these made me realize my shallow-ness and ego............

Also, just a question to the OP, but are you an only child?
