Hey everyone,
I wasn't admitted into Honors Carolina when I got my acceptance, but I really want to apply during my first-year. I know you have to have a 3.0 GPA and a faculty rec form, but do the admissions officers look for when admitting someone into the honors program? Is there an essay involved, or any subjective factors? I would love everyone's comments and advice!

Thank you!! :)

BUUUUMP. and also, even if you’re not in the honors program, i heard that you can take the honors classes. what are the chances of a non-honors person getting into one?

You definitely can take honors courses even if you are not in the program. Daughter has taken 4 during her two years. It does depend on the class/subject. I believe the Honors Carolina students get first shot at the open slots.

Nobody really cares about that anyway. What might matter is graduating with honors, which is something entirely different.

I really want to get into CHEM 261H my sophomore year…I hear the professor is really good for it! Plus that class, or so I hear, is the backbone of pre-med, so I thought getting into that class would be a good experience.

The key to getting into honors chemistry classes is being a chemistry major with a good GPA and strong science grades, not being in Honors Carolina. You need Chemistry Dept consent to enroll in honors chemistry classes and they absolutely favor chemistry majors over any other major. This is a situation where the Honors Carolina early enrollment benefit for honors classes is meaningless.
