How do you guys like Clark Kerr?

What time would you guys consider a "safe" time to walk back to you dorm at night? As in, when there's still a lot of other students walking?

I lived in Clark Kerr last year. At times I would stay at campus until 10 or 11 PM (especially after a midterm), and I still found it reasonably safe to walk home alone. I also took a shortcut to my dorm which happened to go through Frat Row, providing some sense of comfort knowing that there are students around. Honestly, it’s not that bad and if the distance or dark streets worry you, you could always take the bus or use BearWalk. You just need to have some form of street smart. Don’t walk home with earphones on, and always look behind you if you’re paranoid like me, lol.

How long would it take to walk from Evans Hall to CKC?

I never took the bus, so it usually took me around 10 minutes to get from Pimentel to CKC. I walk really fast, though, so keep that in mind. I find it harder to walk back home because it’s uphill, but at least you can avert the Freshman 15. :)

It’s far as hell from anywhere on the campus.

How are the people at CKC? Are they mostly athletes, or are there also some quiet engineering/science majors (people who I can relate to). Also, is the walk to CKC that big of a deal when you weigh in the advantages of CKC (better food, larger rooms, etc.)?

Thanks for your input JustinR! :).

I lived in the units this year and I requested Clark Kerr this semester because it’s REALLY NICE and SERENE! And I heard the rooms are bigger. How the are doubles compared to the units. How’s building 8! hahah sorry for all these questions. so excited to live in clark kerr haha

I lived in CKC two years ago. It seemed like they grouped most of the athletes in the same buildings–there were no athletes in my building anyway. I’m an engineering major, and there were 4 other engineers on my floor alone. The advantages you named greatly outweigh the walk in my opinion. CKC is the way to go!

imagine18, I’m not sure about the doubles, but I’m sure they are way bigger than the units. I lived in a triple, and it seemed like it was almost twice as big as the unit triples. The unit people were always jealous when they came to our rooms haha. Building 8 (and all the others except building 12) was newly renovated 2 years ago, so it should be awesome!

No problem, imagine18. I really enjoyed living in Clark Kerr this past year, and I was in a double in Building 3. The doubles are really spacious compared to the units! Higher ceilings, new furniture, better air ventilation. I even lucked out and got a double in the corner of my building where we had our own separate bathroom/shower. The bike room was also right outside our door as well, which allowed for easier access in/out of the building. It was amazing, haha. I don’t know much about building 8.

To be honest, there were quite a bit of athletes on my floor but all of them were easily approachable. You’ll encounter them in the dining hall a lot; they’re all pretty tall, lol. My roommate was an EECS major and he was really anti-social, but everyone else on my floor was pretty cool.

As for the distance, it’s not really a big of a deal. A lot of people complain about it, but it’s something you get used to. It does become a burden when you forget something in your dorm and have to head back.
