how do you rush as a transfer student?

those of you in colleges with a lot of greek life- is it worth it? does it get old? i'm at nyu right now and considering transferring to a big greek school like vandy or northwestern. how do you rush as a soph transfer, anyone know?

It's not for everyone.

go out to the fraternity/sorority of that you like and they will rush you, assuming they like you of course. it varies at every school, but in general there is a set rush week where you go out to events and the frat/sorority votes you in or out.

It's going to be hard rushing as a sophomore at Vandy.

Can you even rush as a junior?

Greek Life is definately worth it even if you rush as a sophomore.

At the school I attended, we had several upperclassmen who went through formal recruitment (either in the spring or the fall...whenever your school has it). They signed up and went through the process with the freshmen. I will tell you that there are always some chapters that are reluctant to take upperclassmen. They will take very few because they want to keep their classes balanced. With that being said, I knew sophomores and juniors that rushed and pledged these sororities so it is possible. A strong college GPA always makes an upperclassman more attractive. My chapter was not one that worried about this. We found that we got a lot of great sophomore and junior girls that we later found out these others passed over.

A second option is what is called COB (Continuous Open Bidding). A chapter that is not at campus total can extend bids at any time through the year. They may do this through an informal rush party or it may be even less formal than that. Chapters typically want to be at total and are usually looking for girls who are interested in pledging a sorority in order to get there. On my campus there were typically 2-3 sororities that were in this situation each semester. If you want to go this route, I might call the Panhellenic Office at your school and ask if any chapters are currently holding informal recruitment or COB activities. Chances are the Panhellenic advisor will pass your name along to the chapters who are looking. All chapters will not be available going this route, but you may find you like your choices and can miss the hassle of formal recruitment.

I dunno it just seems too late even if I wanted to join one. I got two more semesters after this.

why would it be hard rushing as a soph at vandy? even if i knew a couple of people?

It's an SEC school, so it's hard (but not impossible) to successfully rush as anything above a freshman. If you know some people and/or get some recommendations from sorority alumni, that would help tremendously. Good luck.

does anyone know about the rushing situation at Elon?

Not at all true. I go to an SEC school and it is quite possible to rush as a soph. if the brothers/sisters of the fraternity/sorority like you.

When I mentioned my experiences above, they took place at an SEC school as well.

Um, right. I specifically said it's not impossible. But you're either lying or naive if you think that it's just as easy to rush as a sophomore at a competitive school as it is if you are a freshman. Also, sorority rush is a LOT different from fraternity rush. To the OP: there are several big forums about Greek Life, you should try asking your question there too.

I never said it was just as easy. In fact I specifically said that there are some chapters that are very reluctant to take upperclassmen because they want to keep their classes balanced. However, I've known sophomores and even juniors who were outstanding who got in these chapters. I also pointed out that chapters who COB are very open to sophomores.

wait, frats can help you transfer? lol
like, penn state?
