How does Stanford weigh high schools GPAs because my high school messes it up.

Do they put it back on the 4.0 scale or the 4/5 weighted scale.

Our high school scale is so weird, its not either of the normal ones but its still called weighted.

SO I have a 4.5 on my high school GPA on my trasncript weighted wise, but if I use the scale some other high schools use, it would be 4.7+.

Isn't that unfair, or do they reweigh it?

Last I checked, Stanford completely redoes your GPA. They only count core classes (so those straight A’s in gym class don’t mean a thing), and they don’t weight anything. Rather than weighting your grades, they look at the overall rigor of your courseload.

I’ve also heard that 9th grade courses aren’t considered, just 10-12. Is that true?

That’s what I’ve heard. Also, what would be considered a rigorous courseload? Having taken all the AP’s and honors courses available to me, will it be alright if it’s not many compared to others. This is due to the fact that I go to a small private school and we only offer 8 AP’s total. I have taken the three available thus far and am taking the last 5 my senior year. Thus far, I have a 3.67 UW and a 4.14 W. Am I anywhere near where I need to be?

When I applied, 9th grade didn’t count. That was a while ago, but as far as I know it hasn’t changed.

What’s the reasoning on that, just curious? What if you’ve taken advanced courses (like AP classes in 9th grade – will they even consider?

I believe the reasoning is that some students don’t always adjust seamlessly to their first year of HS, which can result in lower grade frosh year.

When Stanford recalculates your GPA do they count an A- as different from an A?
I’m wondering because at my school both are weighted equally…
