How does TAG work exactly?(Transfer admission guarantee)

Do you have to be a first year student at a california community college in order for TAG to work? Im currently a freshman at the university of hawaii. Is it too late to transfer to a california community college for my sophomore year and then transfer(using the TAG program) to UCI for my junior year?

See <a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors; for rules on TAG. The minimum course work requirement is that you have completed more than 50% of all college course work at a CCC by the time of transfer to the UC and thus you are not required to have started at a CCC. However, each UC then has its own rules, and Irvine requires that you have completed at least 60 UC transferable hours at a CCC to transfer, see “Who Can File a TAG?” in the site given above. Also, be aware the rules can change from year to year, e.g., Irvine actually went from requiring that all course work come from a CCC for 2012 transfers to the now 60 hour requirement for 2013 transfer.

As to whether you can currently apply to a CCC for start in Fall 2013, you need to check rules of each although many usually continue to accept applications well into the summer.
