It is actually a pretty difficult test, especially if you have never studied US History. I know people who did poorly after taking AP. I don't recommend self-studying it unless you plan to spend a lot of time with it. I guess you could try to memorize a comprehensive prep book with substantial diligence.

can you recommend some god prep books? do such books as kaplan US History contain all the needed information for the test or do I need some additional books with history facts? I plan to spend 3-4 months several hours a day preparing myself for this test(actually now I don
t know anything about US History) and I
m rather good at memorizing History facts so the only problem for me is to find good books for preparation. do you know any?

I didn't use any prep book for review, so I can't really give suggestions. Kaplan's book is pretty thick though (I used it for practice tests), so it should cover a lot of the necessary material.

My advice: use REA for the AP US history test. I found that the questions, even though they were aimed at AP, were actually rather similar to the SAT II questions.
