how important are first-semester senior year grades?

would it be OK (esp. if you're applying to ivies with all As before sr year) to have maybe one or two Bs first semester? if your ECs and awards and essays are not terribly outstanding but in the range of ivies? esp HYP and Stanford and MIT

i already got into caltech if that helps =/

I'm in the same boat (although I've got a lovely C to go along with the B's ;)). From what I gather, it seems that B's are not that significant in the grand scheme of things and the fact that you got admitted to Caltech early implies that you'd probably be a very strong candidate wherever you choose to apply.

One of HYP might decide to waitlist you though just because there are so many kids who do manage to maintain all A's into senior year and they have to differentiate amongst a bunch of similar applicants somehow.

one or two Bs probably won't throw you out of the running if you were very competent to begin with. However, if you have mediocre stats with no hook in particular, it might be pretty detrimental. Judging from your grades, I don't think you'll have too many problems.

I currently have straight As and a C. Oops. I guess we'll see what happens.

haha okay..thanks! bump anyone else? and knowlegeable adults want to share their info? :D
