<p>It's not vital. In the case of boderline applicants, it can push things one way or the other. Sometimes if the interviewer REALLY likes you (or your daughter, rather), it can help a lot (or hurt a lot, in the opposite case if you're just a terrible person in real life). It's also good so you can learn a little more about Barnard, see if you'd really want to go there.</p>
<p>It might look a little strange if you don't have an interview since you live in Jersey, though. But plenty of people get in without it.</p>
