How important is the GPA for the semester (or quarter) before transfer?

Title says it all. I'm asking because I might be taking 6 classes this semester. Will it be okay if my GPA is lower than my current GPA (Like a 3.0 for example. Not to say I'm going to aim for a 3.0; I'm still going do the best I can in every class, but just incase something goes wrong). Will the UC rescind your admission (if you got into that UC)?

current GPA: 3.47

What GPA they expect of you will be outlined in your contract when you get your admission. From what I know, it’s generally around 3.0, nothing crazy, and not to get any Ds or fails in your spring classes.

Terms and conditions are different at every school. Most will say don’t fail any classes, some might ask for a 3.0+ overall GPA. The worst I know of is Berkeley, which (at least for EECS) required a 3.0+ semester GPA… but even that’s pretty do-able. You’ll get more specific rules with your acceptance letters.

So, don’t worry too much, you’ll be fine. 3.0 shouldn’t kill you anywhere… just don’t fail anything. :P

Okay cool, thanks guys.

If its any indication UCSD required a 2.8 semester gpa from me when I transfered

Sent from my SCH-I605 using CC

^Really? That low? But since I TAGGED with them, I will have to maintain a 3.5 GPA.

@TransferDK, good info, do you happen to know other UC’s as well?

@ocnative, Yah, but in a TAG, it’s an agreement where you are automatically in if you do maintain that GPA. If it’s just a general admission, you aren’t sure if you are in or not, so I guess that’s it’s a lower GPA requirement.

ocnative, there’s a difference between a semester GPA and an overall one. A 3.0 or 2.8 semester GPA means that for that term, in only the classes you have during the spring, you need to keep a B (B-) average, and are otherwise rescinded. Overall GPA is all your classes you’ve ever taken, and that fluctuates a whole lot less than a semester GPA. So in that sense, a 3.5 overall can be easier than a 3.0 semester GPA, if you’ve got hard classes for spring.

Anyone know what the required Winter/Spring GPA is for Berkeley L&S?
