I had a really tough marking period and my grades when from all A's and a B to a couple A's, B's and C. How much will that hurt me? I'm really worried.

personally, i’d imagine that the midyear report is pretty important, but not the end of all things

and if you’re so worried, you should probably work harder… i don’t know how much it’ll hurt you. it certainly won’t help ;)

haha I appreciate the advice but the C was a result of a teacher not letting me make up some missed work and in my opinion not at all indicative of the work I put into it. Do you think it would be helpful to write a letter to admissions saying this?

The midyear report is very important, as it usually represents a student’s hardest courseload. It’s likely that the C will hurt.

Unfortunately, adcoms have enough to deal with, and explanations for poor grades usually sound like desperate excuses rather than legitimate reasons. Just submit your midyear report and hold your breath for April.

One low grade will not make or break you. But I think the advice to let it ride is correct. When you have a zit, you don’t walk around pointing it out to people. In many cases, it won’t be noticed or will be overlooked if everything else is strong.

I have strong course load so hopefully that will help I am expecting my report to look like (I only have 5 classes) :

AP Euro- A, A
AP Gov’t- A, A
AP US- A,A
AP Stat- B, B
AP English- A,C

Also are midterms or finals whatever you call them included in the midyear report as well?

Hey I have like the same problem.
I attend a specialized high school and during my junior year i received a 89.90/90.02 during my 2 semesters, while taking 1 AP. Now during my fist term of Senior Year (my midyear report), I think I will be getting an 83.3 - 85 (in that range), but I’m taking 3 AP’s this year as compared to 1 AP Junior year. Is that a huge drop off that will cause a red flag in my application? Thanks, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
