How many classes are you going to take your first semester/quarter at your UC? How many units?

I'm trying to get a sense of the course load other transfers are planning to take on.

How many classes are you going to take your first semester/quarter at your UC? How many units?

I'm trying to get a sense of the course load other transfers are planning to take on.

(When I transfer in Fall 2012) I’m going to only take 12-14 units. Enough to get my feet wet.

3 classes plus research, so probably 14 units?

3 plus research as well

I might also do 3 + research as well…but if I can’t do research, then I’m going to do 4. I’ll probably have one or two hard classes, and two or three “soft” classes to get adjusted my first quarter.

In a quarter system whats the minimum you have to take to be full time and how many credits is a basic class?

LOS TRES PARA MI ESTA PRIMERO SEMESTER.

haven’t taken Spanish in about three years, so hopefully I didn’t insult half of the world’s population right there.

edit: eablinksum - 12 units at some schools, and 13 at others. I think Davis is 13. A basic class is about 4 unitos

I’m planning on signing up for 3 classes (semester) so that totals to 12 units and then adding a DeCal to stay at the 13 minimum. I wanna take it slow and get used to things before I take 4 classes. Plus I don’t think I really have to overload anyway – I have just enough room to add a minor.

I’m going to take three classes (12 units) because 1. I’ll be on a quarter system (UCI) and need to adjust to the speed. 2. It’s my first quarter and I want to have some fun too. 3. the amount of units I’ll be going in with + my prereqs allow me to take a quarter or two of 12-14 untis

Can we add DeCals during Telebears phase I at Cal?

I don’t think you can add Decals yet since they don’t even have the Decal course availability posted for Fall yet and lots of students have registered already for Phase I. I’m sure they would’ve listed them online if you were allowed to enroll already.

Yeah I don’t think you can either since the Fall list for DeCals aren’t up yet. But I have my other classes pretty much figured out, haha.

Can you register for DeCals during phase 2? If not, how are we supposed to reach 13 units? Would it be ok to only get up to 13 units, the minimum, once you can register for one of the CalSO courses? Or should we add a class that we will drop after we can enroll in a CalSO class, just to reach the unit minimum?

I assume they’ll be up by phase 2. During CalSo since it’s our Phase I we sign up for up to ~10 units. So we finish our minimum during the second phase. (If that’s what you meant, lol). The Academic Advising thing didn’t mention when DeCals would be up though, but I assume before school starts since their add/drop deadlines are the same as regular classes.

I haven’t gotten around to asking anyone currently at Cal/or who graduated how it works lol.

Not sure. I’m going to talk to an advisor at orientation to decide whether I should retake Statics at UC or not. I did credit by exam since there weren’t enough students for the course to actually run, and I don’t feel like I mastered the material as well as I could have. If I retake Statics I might go for 15-16 units my first quarter, but if not I’m going to try to stay around 12-14 like everyone else.

I just don’t want to be so crazy busy any more; I want to have time to really master the stuff 100% instead of just at the “good enough for an A at community college” level. I also want time to get some physical activity and join a club or two. I used to take wushu lessons and I’d love to get back into that.

12-13 units

i took 21 units (5 classes) my second quarter and got a 4.0. to be honest i think some college courses (ie. history) are easier than HS.

I may be totally wrong, but don’t you have to just go to the first meeting for the DeCal you want to be in and room permitting, they give you the CCN? Some DeCals you actually have to apply to lol, and if you get “accepted” they send you a CCN.

source: I read it somewhere…a long time ago…

The whole DeCal thing is so frustrating! Are there any other 1-2 unit classes? Maybe I’ll just enroll in 3 4-unit classes and 1 3-unit class. That way I’ll be at 15 units, the “average” course load. I’ll have to try to find an easy class, if I end up taking 4. We can still take lower divs, right?

^PE classes are a unit!!! that’s what I’m planning on doing if the whole DeCal thing doesn’t work out for meh
