i was just wondering
whats the average # of schools a High school senior applys to?
is 10 too many?

11, possibly another 2 or 3 added to the list

I am applying to 15 (although 6 are UC's) so its really 10.

I don't get how people find college apps stressfull! I actually find them extremely fun (yes I know I am in the minority). Its not fun like you hanging out with friends fun, its excitement of what your future holds. I think its my competitive nature that really wants to know if the colleges like what I have (or dont have!) to offer. You just got to think that they are going to possibly let you into their college.

The other thing I noticed is the more colleges you apply to, the less the stress. While it would seem like the opposite is true, you will realize that the more colleges you apply, the less a rejection matters. If you apply to 3 schools, you have to be worried about what each one tells you. While applying to 15 is not always finacially possible, the more colleges you are accepted to, the more you can figure out how you can save the most money.

Also, before you fill out the app, find the essay question. Applying to 15 schools that ask 4 different essay questions is a lot easier than applying to 5 schools that ask 15 different essay questions.

O, I believe I am rambling........

DD is applying to three. She might add one or two more...but that will be it.

hmm good thinking athletics. i never thought of applying to many schools in that way. i was going to anyway lol, but now i think ill have some fun with it! wait, am i really typing that !?

I'm probably applying to about 5 b/c of my financial situation :(

ooh, yeah that is a limiting factor. but look at it positively. you have less work to do.

i manage to pay for only a few of the ones im applying to because some schools had fee waivers because i know alumni. they sign a card and im waived the fee.

though if my mother has her way 3. :(

haha I asked this same question a few days ago: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=101986

I think the average is 6, but its increasing.

I'm applying to probably 8! A nice solid number. However, I may add a couple of more reaches for fun.

i'm applying to 9! thank goodness 8 of them are common app.

i'm applying to 3-
UGA, UF, and UNC

not getting into UNC (hey- at least i won't be crushed when admission notices come out), but i'll probably get into UF and UGA.

i'm not applying to safeties. if i don't get in to UGA or UF by some weird situation, i'm taking a gap year and studying in europe.

BUT IF I CHANGE MY MIND ON THAT!
my safety has rolling admissions until june 30th.

yeah, i think i know what i'm doing?

how do u know if school is common app or not?

im extremely lucky that I have an excellent state school for backup so I'm filling up on reaches and dream schools. If I happen to get rejected to them all, I'll be satisfied that I tried at least and can atleast go to the state school. so, thus, I'm applying to 8 schools

four....maybe five...but def four at the moment

it's all we're allowed.

three, which is pretty stupid, because i don't have a safety that i'd be fully happy at. so hopefully i'll get into my top choice knock on wood :)

"how do u know if school is common app or not?"

you can check the common app website... common app only allows schools that exercise affirmative action policies onto their list... racist bastards.

Ah...the final, not allowed to be changed under any circumstances from 10/18 on list has 8. I'm very happy. Reaches, matches, safeties. All places I'd LOVE to go to (from the safety to the reach). Finally, I'm content with my list :D

six. and i'm not changing it no matter what.
