YPSM or an LAC? Especially since the already-accepteds did SCEA, it seems that you wouldn’t really be considering any other schools as highly as Harvard, but looking at the accepted students, most of them say they are/did apply(ing) to other schools. So why/where else are you considering?
(I’m going to be at Princeton, so I’m also of course curious if any of you are considering it, since we could be future classmates.)
I guess a lot of it could just be that you don’t know, so you’ll apply places and visit them to see where you like most, but still curious to see any responses.
I’d imagine that many admitted SCEA candidates will wait to compare financial aid offers. As many threads have mentioned, some middle to upper-middle class families may find that merit aid offered from non-ivy schools may tip the scales. It seems that low-income students may likely find Harvard’s offer the most advantageous.
For affluent students, I imagine the great majority already accepted to Harvard will attend. I know our GC made a big deal about competitive students not trying to collect “trouphy acceptances” that might adversely affect others’ chances.
I applied to Yale SCEA and was deferred. It was absolutely my top choice and I would have attended without a second thought. But last week, I got a likely letter from Harvard, and that’s really started to tip the scales towards it. Reading more about it and watching videos is really making start to love this place. I have no idea what’s going to happen on March 31st, I’m not sure which is my favorite, and I do still like Yale, but I can definitely say that likely letters are insanely effective at getting someone excited about a certain college.
@BraveSirZaphod that’s crazy! Just shows what a crapshoot this is
@Regurge01 A crapshoot is exactly what it is, lol. I never imagined I had any chance at all.
Congrats and I bet you get into Yale too. Choose H!!
They showed you the love
A fair number (don’t ask me to quantify) of SCEA students only apply to Harvard, and upon acceptance, make no other applications. They’re happy with “one and done.” This subset of accepted students obviously doesn’t give a serious second look at any other school. I imagine that’s part of the whole purpose of SCEA - to encourage early admits to not even look elsewhere.
