How many people do they waitlist?

@stupefy did you also take the waitlist spot for princeton?

^I stayed on the waitlist at princeton, penn, columbia, and duke
I took myself off the waitlist for brown

I was waitlisted, but I’m still really grateful for it. I never expected anything more than a rejection, but for sure I’m going to try my hardest to show them I belong at Columbia! Otherwise I’m off to NYU or Macaulay Hunter :)

Yeah I’m going to try my best to get off this waitlist or else it’s off to University of Florida (or maybe even a gap year working in Africa) for me…

I got waitlisted too. This is just bad. Does anyone know what sort of a letter we’re supposed to write to them ? and who it’s supposed to be sent too ?

^and when it’s due by?

@cr_freak:

I imagine you should express your continued interest in the school, why your a good fit, etc. And also make sure they know you haven’t been slacking off since you submitted your app (I received As in such and such… I’ve continued working on projectX or playing sportY…).

I think that’s enough without going overboard… a page is probably a good length. They clearly like you if you’re on the waitlist (a feat in and of itself!) so just let them know you’re still there and willing.

(and I was waitlisted, too)

And stupefy, there’s no specific date from when I can tell. As long as it’s in before May 15th, I think you’re good.

Waitlisted at Columbia and Johns Hopkins, but I was expecting flat out rejection. I have a feeling I’ll be at University of Florida as well, because I can’t see my luck being good enough to get off the waitlist.

I called today and they said they “canot release that information” (in regard to how many people were waitlisted)

Oh man, really? Oh well, thanks, Stupefy. Did you by any chance ask how many people are typically admitted off of the waitlist? Thanks!

it all depends on the number of spaces available and the yield rate. there is
no set formula or anything, so just cross your fingers for now

Or you could just start finding acceptees and start to assassinate them.
“Everybody Happy”

^^^^^^^^^^^^ i think thats a good idea, acceptees LOOK OUT!!!

Last year, no one was admitted from the waitlist group. This year, who knows? Somewhere between zero and 100? Either way, deposit to your first choice among acceptances, elect to stay on the Columbia waitlist, and cross your fingers. Good luck!

I’m in!
when do we start? I know quite a few personally…

Should i send the restatement of interest to my regional admissions officer or the admission office ? Will the regional admissions officer be evaluating the waitlistess if a spot opens or is there another committee ?

I’ve just been telling everyone not to go to Columbia. Spread the word.

Yeah, tell them there is a staph infection breakout among columbia students and faculty members.
WE MUST DECREASE THE YIELD!!!

question: does the one-page (whatever) have to be an essay or a letter?
Should you just mail it to undergrad admissions or to the regional officer?

^^^ yeah I’m wondering that too, like where do we mail our “very brief (one-page maximum) supplementary statement”? the main admissions office? and when is it says very brief what does that mean…because my “supplementary statement” is one page but its like an ENTIRE page single spaced type 11.5 font…

If they only specify “one page”, then I am using that page as much as I can. Mine is probably going to be a solid page, if not a little more, single spaced, but it will flow easily and be brief. I think it goes the same as word limits on essays. Don’t go too far over or under, but a little bit either way is fine.
