How many teacher recommendations are needed?

how many are needed for prviates? 2? 3? 4?

Usually 2.

all will require a counselor recommendation
After that, anywhere from 0-2 recs. I only had one school that didn't require a teacher rec, and i had to any way for a scholarship. A few required one, and most are 2. If you are still in school, you should ask your teachers before the summer to make sure you are set. If you are out already maybe email them

yes i asked my ap comp and ap ush teachers for recommendations. both said they would really want to

Would having more than 2 recs have a negative impact?

^ Use good judgement. If you want one good supplemental rec, that's fine. But I wouldn't submit more than three total recs if two are required. Otherwise, it just gets repetitive very quickly.

Most schools want two and two only. They say to only include a third if it offers a significantly different perspective than your 1st 2 teacher recs -- like a theatre teacher or sports team coach or former job supervisor. A 3d teacher rec from an academic subject most likely will ape what the 1st two wrote -- that's why they don't encourage a 3rd rec.

Regardless, don't feel compelled that you MUST have a 3rd. You'll be sufficiently vetted with even the two. Good luck to you all.

hey t2...
i am getting recommendations from my history, english, and german teacher. is that good?

3365: Well... like I said, your third rec probably won't add anything profound that's not already in the 1st two. Unless you have the option of reading them, just submit two.

Remember: most colleges REQUEST two for a reason. Often, everyone feels they are the special case...

Just my opinion here

yes but m y third teacher is not a core teacher so thats good rite?

Your third teacher is a core teacher. The core subjects are math, history/social sciences, foreign language, science and English. A German teacher is core.

It's also irrelevant whether the third is from a core teacher. Unless that third recommendation can talk about something that the others cannot (which is often the case with long-time music/art teachers or sports coaches), there is no benefit to sending it.

Some schools will only read the first two recs they pick up, so you may want to make sure they are the two you want read. They just won't even look at the third rec.
