How many times have you taken the ACT?

My oldest D took the ACT four times prepping each time and got the exact same composite each time.

My youngest took the ACT three times (so far) with extraordinary prep. She got one point less each time. She is still not satisfied with her score. She plans to take it again in June and if need be again in September. Let's all cross our fingers she breaks her pattern.

I thought I would ask the cc crowd, how many times have you take the ACT?

....Misery loves company

Twice. Didnt study very much either time. Went up 3 composite points the second time.

Maybe the secret is not to prep?

So far my daughter has taken it twice. She just got her scores back from the April 14th test and scored a 30 composite. She has also taken it through her high school on April 24th, but we won’t have those scores back for a few more weeks yet. She is scheduled to take it in June, too. Not sure about whether she will take it in September or not. 30 was her goal, and she is very happy that she got that score this time, but she also wants to major in engineering at a Big 10 school, so the higher the score, the more likely she will be accepted into engineering programs and/or receive merit scholarships. There’s also a test in October that my daughter could take, but I doubt she would opt to take another test then, regardless of the scores she gets on the other testing dates. She may possibly take up to 4 then (w/September being the last one) and then that is it. It is so stressful and time consuming to study for the ACT!

I’ve taken it 4 times and increased my score each time. I also put a ton of prep into the test and I plan on taking it once more in June, which probably sounds crazy to a lot of people. I am happy with my score (31) but I just want to see if I can maybe raise it one or two more points. Good luck!

I have taken it two times so far

first time: 29
second time: 32

Once. But I studied a whole year and a half for the SAT test, however when I was about to sign up I heard the ACT might be a better choice. Looked over the format of the ACT, signed up, and did practice exams up until the night before. I got a 34 and never ended up taking the SAT lol.

…Is it common for people to not improve no matter how much they prep? D:

ACTstudent.com had statistic that like 51% of people increase their composite, 25% had no change, and 24% went down.

First time I took it was in April.

E: 29
M: 29
W: 29
S: 29

C: 29

■■■ srs. I really wanted a 32. I’m gonna take it again in September. Too much stuff going on in May/June to prepare effectively.

@Vicimus *ACTstudent.org

Once with some prep. The SAT is what the big challenge is now.

24% decrease?

…

22%, actually. Here’s the link he’s talking about:
[ACT Registration : Retake the Test](http://actstudent.org/regist/retake.html)

6 times, 7 after June.

My daughter has taken it 5 times. The first two times were for me understanding how she was progressing in public school (9th & 10th). This she took it in Oct, Feb and in April 24-Illinois test. I thought scores were fine in February, however she wants to take one more time in June and hopefully that will be it.

Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with multiple tests. I think it prepares you for future tests such as AP and ultimately MCAT. You become accustomed to the timing and determining best way to answer question.

The number of times you take the test is a personal decision. You should do what you feel most comfortable doing.

Took it once so far, studied by taking half a practice exam, got a 30. I want to take it again to bring it up but taking it twice is the highest I’m going lol

My oldest took it twice. Before the second time, he had some private help on 2 sections and raised the composite from a 27 to 28. My youngest (junior this year) has taken it 3 times. First time 32, second time 32, third time (with some private help on 2 sections and more practice) 35. And done.

I think it’s important to analyze their results and practice tests and target their practice and maybe tutoring so that they aren’t randomly practicing. That could get frustrating for kids I would think. Also, is it a timing issue or an accuracy issue? Maybe as the mom you could invest some time analyzing that (that’s what I did). I think that helped both of my kids. Good luck - I would think she could raise it.

I got a 33 sophomore year no prep, a 31 in September with prep (may have been summer that caused this) and a 35 in December no prep. I think it depends on the person.
