My brother visited Northwestern over the summer, and his positive views really got me thinking that I should apply as well. I looked up lots of information on Northwestern that still has been considering it as one of my top colleges, and I went to a college fair this year with Northwestern as one of the colleges present. My only problem is, I've never had time to take a plane and visit Northwestern this year, and I doubt I will before I get my application is.

Will the fact that I never visited Northwestern seriously hurt my chances at getting in? (If it matters, I'm above their GPA and SAT scores)

Thanks for the help!

Northwestern does consider “level of applicant’s interest”, so having a visit recorded may help.

No, I don’t think it’ll seriously hurt your chances. Remember, a campus visit is not the only way to find out more about a college, although it’s probably the best one. You should try the CampusVibe option on this website, it might help a lot. But I still think that colleges understand that not everyone has the time and resources to visit campus, so they make sure that it won’t be held against you strongly, as long as you did plenty of other research.
Btw, I’m in the same boat as you. I’m applying to several colleges in California and to a couple on the east coast, and my parents said that I can’t visit them unless I get accepted. It sucks, but it’s fair.

If you lived in Glenview, IL, and never visited Northwestern, that might be a knock against you. If you’d have to fly to Chicago, take a hotel room, etc., that’s an entirely different matter.

What matters is demonstrating “interest”. Some colleges (including Northwestern) track that. It means you should fill out the “request info” form, initiate contact, ask questions (the answers of which are NOT already on the website), etc.
