Anyone has any idea ?

i have a same question....and what is this e-bill and CARS stuff? Does ucb automatically take money from ur cars account? (sry twitb, for not answering yur question)

BUMP! i want to know too

Just my best guess~

Log onto Bearfacts and click on the "Quick Statement" button... you will get a statement on how much you owe. My current has the "minimum fee" at $5015.95. I have enough in my CARS account to cover my fees. The University automatically transfers the funds from CARS to pay for the costs. I believe the e-bill refers to the Sallie Mae service which sends you the statement after you have been charged, and you can review the information as well as get information on any refund checks, if applicable. There's also the EFS service- Electronic Funds Service (?)- that automatically wires any refund amounts directly into your checking account. I'm sure a current Berkeley student might answer this better (or with 100% certainty!).. best of luck,

thanks.....

How does the fin. aid apply? I read the FAQS but it doesn't really help at all, since I fulfilled all the requirements and it isn't adding/helping parts of the bill itself.

EFT~ Electronic Funds Transfer*

sorry unlimitedx, I'm not understanding you. Are you asking how financial aid recipients are charged?

I'm asking how do I use my financial aid to pay for the payments. Anyone figured it out?

Once you have completed all the financial aid tasks, the amount of your loans + grants + scholarships are all transferred as "dollar value" in your CARS account, so a $4000 loan would be the same as signing a check for $4000 towards the CARS account. So technically you don't "use" your financial aid- the money will be placed into the account for you (and will be, as I described above, where the University taps your money to pay for dues). I hope I answered your question,

TTG

Exactly... I've completed all the financial aid tasks, but it has not be transferred yet.

how much is in your account balance? if it's not all there, then you're going to have to talk to your counselor. If you have enough to cover the first payment, then you shouldn't worry too much at this time and just walk into the finaid office when you're free once school starts. But, I'm sure they'll advise you, just give them some time. Things take a while to get finished, and it's best that you just wait (if there's enough in your CARS account). best of luck,

when you said to look at the "quick statement", you meant the "new Cars e-bill/e-check", right? because when I go there, I only see $0. How come I'm not getting any charges

no quick statement under students under bearfacts

No. "quick statement" after you've logged into Bearfacts, not the "new CARS etc.." link on the Bearfacts sign-in page. The link that you've talked about is how you pay for your bills. Simply sign and there are relatively short procedures to pay your bills once the first payment is due~ August 15. Nbanyk, you saw $0 because there were no payments due last month.

TTG

so then is it going to change august 1st? how are we supposed to pay if it only shows the previous month's dues?

will it be that ~$5,000 or what?

Well.... Im a new student too so I could be completely wrong. But Ive talked to the financial aid office ALOT (you have no idea how much) and this is the impression I get of the process.

All we have to do in order for our loans to be processed is do entrance counseling, fill out the MPN, and take care of the PLUS loan application packet they send our parents. Once that is done and we accept the loans in bearfacts, our job is done. Financial Aid sends everything we have (scholarships, loans, etc) to our CARS account to pay the bill. When the bill is completely paid, we get any money that is left over through Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) so we can buy books, travel home, blah blah blah. So theres that.

As far as how much is going to be charged on August 15... I know they charge all of the registration fees for Fall Semester in one lump sum on August 15. This comes out to $3616.95 if youre keeping the University Health Insurance. If you're not, the total is $461 less than that. They also charge for at least one month of housing. When you got your housing contract confirmation it should say how much one month is. The only time they charge for more than one month of housing on August 15 is if you are using financial aid of some variety to pay for everything and you just have a massive chunk of money sitting in your CARS account. Then they will charge you for all 5 months of the semester at once.

So to summarize, the amount that is due on August 15 is registration ($3616.95 or thereabouts) plus either one month of housing (for those who are paying with some out of pocket money) or all 5 months of housing (for those with financial aid).

Thats long and I really hope its right, because I am so tired of talking to the financial aid people. Sigh.

So where does all the money stay until I pay the fees? In my checking account?

no the money stays with the financial aid office, then they put it right into your CARS account. The bills wil be paid out of this account and you dont do anything for that to happen. Then what is left afterwards will go to your checking account.

easymack's reference to "what is left afterwards" will only go directly into your checking count if you sign up with EFT, otherwise you're going to have to pick up your 'refund check' (<--- that's what it's called) in the office, though I forget which one (financial aid, billing and services, etc.. don't know)..
