How prestigious is the NCTE Writing Achievement Award?

Just wondering in terms of the whole college app. Is it ranked as just another award that means nothing or something thats comparable to science olympiad semifinalist/perfect SATs?

I've heard of the Scholastic Art and Writing awards and those seem pretty important, so what about NCTE?

im wondering the same thing i got it this year as well and ive already put it on my submitted applications soooo....
my teacher that nominated me said it's not something to sneeze at

it's really presitigious

Bump - can anyone else confirm tryin2Bcool?

It's very prestigious.

~600 students around the country receive this award. It's given out with state quotas. I surmise it's comparable to a slightly less prestigious, literary take of an Intel Semifinalist standing (which is awarded to ~300 students around the country)

I just got nominated for this and I'm psyched!

Is being nominated worth mentioning? 'Cause I'm proud of it... lmao. >__>

Also: the form says that 876 kids receive it yearly.

@ Marimare - Sounds about right then.

@ Poseur - Congrats! I was nominated for this too and I come from an easy state lol, so hopefully I'll get it. I think being nominated would probably be like a school-level/department type award.

Yeah, you probably shouldn't mention "nominated" unless you are into putting down "math department A+ kid," etc. on applications.

Echelon, that's great! Competition in my state is somewhat hard, but I truly pity the NJ and MA kids, lol. What am I saying? Our school is still having an inhouse competition and I haven't even been nominated.

876 kids? I know that the number should be double the number of members in the House of Representatives, since they allow (2 times #ofrepsofstate) winners for a given state.
