I just found out that 3 people from my school who applied around the same time as me got their decisions about 2 weeks ago. The fact that I haven’t gotten mine pretty much means I didn’t get in, right?

Not at all. There may have been an issue with your paperwork, or maybe their stats were significantly higher so the decision was easier, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get an offer. Did you ever retake the SAT? What are your stats as of now? And did you do the “Why Tulane” essay and/or shown interest in other ways?

Mosicles - There were 30-something early applicants from my child’s school. About 2 Facebooked their acceptances a few days ago. My child is higher ranked with a higher ACT score. I don’t know if the counselor submitted their school materials earlier or at the same time as mine. My theory at the moment is that it might be alphabetical? (maybe coincidence, but the ones accepted from my child’s school have last names at the beginning of the alphabet). We’re still waiting as well. Blank screen today. “Complete” for almost 2 weeks.

-4.0 weighted GPA
-2020 on the SATs (took them 3 times)
- 650 math 2, 690 biology and 750 literature subject tests
-President of an award winning club
-Treasurer of another club
-Captain of the badminton team
-Photo editor of yearbook class
-Volunteered for about 2 years at a hospital, the library, and the SPCA
-Active member of California Scholarship Federation - Took orchestra for 6 years

My grades were bad my first year of high school so maybe they were stuck on that? I wrote all the essays. I could have shown more interest by visiting but I can’t afford to fly down there from California so I couldn’t really do much about that.

justmehere- That’s what my friends were thinking too - about it being alphabetical. My last name starts with an X…

Not visiting campus is OK, a lot of people cannot do that. It would have been good if you could have attended one of the local events Tulane holds, but that isn’t always possible either. The fact that you filled out the essay is enough, as long as you put some thought into it.

Your grades and scores seem very solid. Actually improving your grades after freshman year is considered a positive thing. I will assume that your unweighted GPA is somewhere between 3.5-3.7? Depends on how many honors and AP courses you have had, assuming your school adds extra credit to your GPA for those.

Certainly cannot predict, but you seem like a very solid candidate for Tulane. I don’t know how serious you are about going there, since it looks like USC is your first choice? But if Tulane is a real possibility, it doesn’t hurt to write to your admission officer and restate to them that Tulane is one of the few schools you are seriously considering, or something like that. If you do not know who your admissions person is, go to [Tulane Admission: Meet Your Counselor](http://admission.tulane.edu/counselors/) and use the section on the right side of the screen.

I went to the college visit at my school which is how I became interested in it. I used to really want to go to USC but I changed my mind and I’m not even applying there anymore. I’m really interested in a public health career so getting admitted to Tulane will definitely give me more options since it’s one of the few schools with an undergraduate public health program. Tulane isn’t my 1st choice but it’s definitely up there. I’m just about to go crazy seeing that blank box on the application status page!

LOL, you and a bunch of others. OK, that is good info, especially the part about Public Health as a major. If you didn’t make that clear in your original essays about Tulane, then definitely write to your admissions person and tell them. Even if you did, read about it in even more depth and tell them you did that. You want to get their attention with something positive you are doing about interacting with Tulane.

Hi all! My application status is blank but I just got a letter notifying me of my acceptance with an Academic Achievement Award scholarship. Goodluck to all of you still waiting and stay by the mailbox!

That’s funny tawarren95 because we got an acceptance on line almost two weeks ago and haven’t gotten a letter!

tawarren - congrats! No doubt your Gibson screen said accepted before, you just didn’t happen to look then. Obviously doesn’t really matter since you wouldn’t have known about the $20K anyway. That is the amount, right?

Yes, that is the amount! Thanks for the congratulations from you and others! I’m a little concerned that I haven’t received a financial aid package yet, as I have sent the CSS Profile; does anyone know if you’re supposed to get one along with an acceptance? Even if it’s this early? I’d check the financial aid status but, well, you know. Can’t right now.

Oh my no. Those don’t generally come out until after the middle of February. Your decision as to which school to attend isn’t until May 1, so there is tons of time. The important thing is that you have your acceptance and merit scholarship in the “win” column. Now you might see a need-based aid package sooner, but I bet they will want to see your 2012 IRS return first. I think that is why they wait until sometime into February at the earliest, but maybe I am wrong. I know last year most people didn’t see their need-based package until sometime in late March. But work with the Tulane FA people, they are there to help.

Wow, strange. I wonder what the purpose of doing an EA application was then. But no complaints. Goodluck to the rest of you!

That is true at almost all schools, so really not strange I don’t think. The purpose of EA is twofold: 1) It shows the school that you apply to you are more interested than the average student; and 2) you get your admission decision that much earlier, which is half the battle.

This is one reason EA is non-binding, as opposed to ED which is. So if you get into a school ED and then their FA package is insufficient, you can choose not to go there but it is embarrassing for both parties. Many ED schools tell you not to apply if you think finances are going to be a major factor in your decision. I got into a bit of a fight with someone from the administration at GW I think it was a couple of years ago over this very issue. One of the reasons Harvard and some others stopped doing ED was exactly because it discriminated against lower income groups. Not just because of this issue, but also because on balance they had less access to the resources needed to take advantage of ED, or even know it existed. But then when some of their peer universities did not stop doing ED, Harvard (and Princeton I think was also in the same situation) decided to reinstate it because they were at a disadvantage to those schools.

Anyway, that is why they have EA. Now maybe you will get an FA offer earlier, like I said I am not sure. Anyone on here have any experience with this kind of situation?

Hi guys! My application has been complete and now my Gibson page is blank. How long do you think it will take to hear back? Thanks!

i think something is wrong with gibson because i was accepted a couple of days ago and mine is still blank. seems like everybody’s is blank. however mine did go blank before showing the congratulations/acceptance message and it seems like that happened to other people-not sure if that is an indicator or not
nicstric8-when did you apply?
i applied nov. 14 and heard back the 27 (so it took about a week and a half considering they were closed a couple of days for thanksgiving)

I applied Oct 18th but it was considered complete 3 weeks ago! So nervous

Hey guys just want to let you know for everyone who is having Gibson issues that I was accepted about 2 weeks ago on Gibson and received my letter last week and now my status on Gibson is blank.

nicstric8, Welcome, you have entered The Gibson Zone, a parallel universe where application statuses go from “complete” to blank, then back to “complete” numerous times in order to drive students and their anxious parents completely crazy. Really, there appears to be some software problem with Gibson. Hopefully, it will be fixed over the weekend and we will all get good news soon. Until then, fingers crossed.
