i guess it depends on your admissions counselor then because my application had a very fast turn around it seems like. hang in there. you will deff know by dec. 15 !
good luck!

Thanksss guys! Good luck to everyone.

@fallenchemist, there is a huge thread somewhere about the (many) drawbacks of ED. I encourage you to check it out; there’s such a huge wealth of information, including anecdotes and warnings and such. Some schools do not provide packages until later, but I do know UChicago (where I am applying EA) will provide an early estimate for EA students. ED will provide an actual package at the time of acceptance. I say it was strange because some schools I’m familiar with that have EA require deadlines for requesting financial aid, which implies that they will put together your package (or an estimate) and let you know when you are admitted early. Clearly Tulane is not the same, which is fine.

I wouldn’t say that turning down acceptance is embarrassing for both parties. Because ED is a legal contract, you cannot just say “Sorry, nope.” You have to refute your package and work with the Office of Aid. Sometimes this is enough to have your package positively reconsidered and be able to afford the school. Sometimes it is not. People who will need a lot of aid are often warned away from ED, but many people who demonstrate high need receive money (of course, this is not the case all the time, but being low income obviously increases the chance you’ll get money over someone with a higher income). From what I’ve learned, ED is a bigger screwover to the middle class, who may need a good sum but cannot properly “demonstrate” it.

Linymom. I’m so glad that you had a great visit to TU. Did you do the whole tour and info thing? Where else did you go? What did you see? Where did you eat? Where did you stay?? Did you explore the areas around the school? We want details!

tawarren - You have clearly researched this a lot! Thanks for the info. I did know that ED schools will usually give you an FA package with acceptance, and that the number of times an offer will be too low to meet true need is relatively infrequent, but of course it does happen. The other fact of the matter is that no one has ever been sued for breaking an ED agreement for any reason as far as I know, it is much more of a moral issue than a legal one. Maybe embarrassing wasn’t the right word, but it can be uncomfortable for sure.

I totally agree with you that these days FA squeezes the middle class much more than the low income group at many universities. Obviously many of the most selective schools even have guaranteed grants for those with income and assets below a certain level, Tulane being one of them. I don’t mind admitting that I would have been one of those upper middle class people that would have had a tough time qualifying for any FA, but also it would have been very tough (well impossible actually) to afford a school like Tulane for my D if she hadn’t won the DHS full tuition scholarship.

Anyway, not to take this off track, it definitely sounds like you totally have this under control. Again, the best of luck, I hope Tulane gets you everything you need. I am sure we would love to have you join the Tulane family. There is even a dorm named after you (Warren).

Hi! I have been following this whole thread for a while now, but just decided to post now. I’m a senior, and I applied EA, and my application was sent in through the tulane app on the 2nd of November, marked complete on Gibson a week later, and now Gibson is blank. A girl from my school already got in earlier this week, but another girl is in the same boat as me with a blank Gibson. So anxious playing this waiting game!

jozuko: Not sure this is thread for visit details and I don’t want to derail the Gibson/acceptance conversation. Will PM you.

LINYMOM, I’d love to hear about your visit as well, if you have the time. Thanks!

I hadn’t been aware of/ checking Gibson, but I just got my acceptance letter in the mail today!I got a $27,000 scholarship and admission to the honors program, so that’s exciting (IB, weighted 4.124 GPA, and 34 ACT) Good luck to everyone!

Maybe this will make some of you feel better. My D was just accepted on 11/27. She applied on 9/27 and her transcripts were sent on 10/4. A girl in her school who applied after her got in about 4 weeks before her, others got in a couple weeks or days before her. It was nerve wracking. She has camp friends in near by towns who also heard about 3 weeks ago. She was starting to lose hope and then she got in! There does not seem to be a pattern. It is definitely not alphabetical. And she did not get the blank screen before her acceptance, but by the way it is blank now. So good luck to everyone and don’t give up hope just because some kids in you school are already in and you aren’t yet.

@ Mumof2 - so happy for you and your D! Great news!
@ LINYMOM - i would love to hear how your visit to NOLA went.

LINYMOM… I would also love to hear it. Did you write a visit report on the Campus Vibe part of CC? Or maybe you can start a new thread here?

Yes linymom I would love to hear about the visit also because I have yet to visit.

D accepted this morning. Very excited!

Congrats applejax!

Applejax, Congrats! Is Holly your rep.?

On an earlier thread it said Gibson would be down the 1st and 8th. I take it that’s not the case?

I was just accepted this morning!!! my app was complete exactly 2 weeks ago

Don’t want to make anyone more nervous than they already are… but my status on Gibson never went blank before receiving admission. Also, I finally got my official letter in the mail yesterday (only took 11 days haha) and was surprised to find out that they offered me $20,000/year! YAY!

Applejax, I know you posted your GPA previously but do you mind posting your ACT/SAT score along with your rep?

Went from blank back to “your application is complete”
congrats to Applejax! I can say I am very jealous
