Well, excitement of acceptance somewhat dampened–no merit award in the formal letter. Guess we are back to the drawing board doing applications…

I think I’m going to get rejected by my ED and a lot of my other choices, and I’ll end up attending Tulane with a lot of debt because I won’t end up getting the aid I need.

Thanks for the optimism, wuhandrummer, I can only hope that you are right. At the very least, I’ll be able to skip a lot of my GE’s due to AP credits, so that’s a major +.

Went on the Chat - only answered 1 out of 3 or 4 questions. I think if you have a question that overlaps w/someone else…they skip your question. My son asked about submitting 1st marking period grades + they said it would not be part of the formal app but he can…not endorsing.

They also said that almost no one gets rejected EA - they are deferred and are put in the Regular Decision pool - then they review you app as if it is for the first time. I think this will be my son at this point…

They also said that they don’t look at weighted vs. unweighted grades necessarily - it is more about the level of difficulty of courses and what your HS offers in comparison.

Bloomy, thats not a good way to look at things you still have 2 weeks to find out!

Does the order of acceptance notification have to do with accepted and rejected results?
TulaneHannah: Aditya: Not at all. We have a lot of applications to get through and if you haven’t heard yet it does NOT mean you have been rejected or deferred.

Mavitale: congratulations !!! So happy for you!!!

Thanks, LINYMOM!! Can’t wait to go visit.

I booked the trip already and THEN read about the Destination Tulane thing…I know my son (and I) wanted to get down there soon so he can confirm this is his first choice. Seems like we wouldn’t need to go AGAIN for that in the Spring?

No, the Destination Tulane is just a set of dates specifically geared towards having undecided students visit. But visiting on your own at any time accomplishes pretty much the same thing.

Just found out… Got accepted!

Awesome oneofsix - still waiting!

Daughter found out yesterday (by letter, did not know about Gibson) that she was accepted EA. No money, but we are fortunate that we think we can make it work without it. 30 ACT, 1910 SAT, 3.75 W Academic GPA (so yes, she was low, and these numbers may give those still waiting some hope.), 7 AP’s, very solid EC’s and leadership. Lots of interest: counselor visit (NorCal), campus visit, summer program on Tulane campus, wrote strong and personal Why Tulane essay. We are very excited! Still waiting on a few other schools, but would be more than happy to be heading to NO in the Fall.

Stats posted here can be very deceptive. There are a lot of other factors. The school obviously does not want a cookie cutter Freshman class. They want variety and may chose one candidate over another due to location, instrument or sport played, background etc. etc. Based upon what is shared on this thread, each one of us has amazing accomplished kids who deserve to be admitted or you are an amazing accomplished kid who should be applauded for your High School career.

Oneofsix and Pokieg- congratulations.

I also have to say thank you to everyone that has been accepted ( or just watching this post) but are still so encouraging of those of us still waiting. I feel very fortunate to have this community and I hope others feel that same support that I do.

We are still waiting. Status is back to complete. I have a much different attitude now that people are beginning to post that are great students but not just the “superstars”. I figure I’ll know in 11 days at the most and even if I find out now I’ll be waiting for the letter so at this point it doesn’t even matter. ( Ok- but if that’s true why am I still checking Gibson a couple of times an hour?)

She’s in!! I saw the status on Gibson this morning. We had pretty much been resigned to being in the deferred pool but there it is. 3.3uw/3.6w 1970 with good ECs and recs and plenty of Tulane love shown. Is it too much to hope for even a token merit award? I can’t wait for D to get home so I can see her reaction.

Pushydad… congrats!! That’s exactly the spot we were in (with very similar GPA too). Don’t know if you saw what I did with my son yesterday, but I printout out a screenshot of the page and just casually asked him to pick up my printouts…so much fun to see his face.

Congrats oneofsix and pokieg too! And those still waiting…it will happen very soon. :)

(I’m still sort of amazed that people think a 3.75 GPA is ‘low’. Maybe by CC standards?)

Wow - lots of good news - I agree Oliver17 about this forum being so supportive - it has made this process more bearable!

STILL WAITING!

Yes, absolutely. I know it is more competitive than ever, but a 3.3-3.4 UW GPA or 3.75 W GPA is really not low. And of course it is all relative. It is absolutely not low compared to all students in the country. It is on the lower end for Tulane, but not really low at all. And sure, it would be low if all we were looking at were the Harvard applicant pool. Besides, given how differently high schools can grade, not sure how meaningful an absolute number is anyway.

One can always hope, but it is unlikely. But I would not mind in the least if I am wrong. Again, congrats. You were a rock.

Has anyone from the Seattle area had a decision yet?

Pushydad: The ‘token’ merit award this year is 8K and there is nothing currently between that and 20K. On this Board I have seen (since I was checking to see what we could ‘expect’) merit ranging from 25K to nothing for a 30 ACT which equates to about a 2000 SAT. Grades, rigor of schedule, interest, location etc. obviously factor in. I think there is also consideration for how many kids from your kid’s HS apply and how competitive that individual pool is. I have yet to be able to figure out why one applicant gets alot of $ and another just (lol) gets accepted.
