Congrats Matvali. Is your son home from school yet? How did he react?
And Bloomy, I am really rooting for you too! Hopefully soon!

Oh, just saw your post mativale. (I must have been typing mine) that’s great!

Congrats sdstar! Glad to see someone similar to me xD

Nah, I doubt a college would make a mistake.
I go to a highly competitive high school that grades rather oddly (ie, they weight grades fairly heavily, but getting an A in high honors courses is also near impossible. I don’t know any other high schools that have to do 50+ page papers in ap english)
My college counselor and parents kept saying taking all these challenging courses would pay off in the end, but I always knew that I should’ve just gotten straight A’s in easy classes. My gpa would end up the same way, and I would probably learn less, but it would look better on paper.

Ah, well, live and learn right? I haven’t been rejected by anywhere yet and I already know that is how it’s going to pan out.

My stats in no particular order:
4.17 W
35 ACT
6 AP classes (my school doesn’t let you take AP’s until junior year, I should mention I have one of the hardest course loads possible)
Almost all classes high honors; if not, then honors. Never taken a non-honors class.
US History: 5
English Lang: 5

SAT 2’s
Math 2: 720
US History: 720

Illinois State Scholar
Central Suburban League Scholar Athlete
Honor Roll for 3 years, Honorable mention for 4

Have taken classes at Brown, studied debate at Stanford

EC’s
4 years of varsity debate
4 years of track, 2 of which are varsity
3 years of cross country, junior varsity
2 years of men’s dance, including leadership position as class choreographer
volunteer work giving food to the homeless during thanksgivings (as in delivering+cooking and serving)
2 years filming and recording school performances

I have some more minor things I could add (and I did on my applications) such as various clubs and small events I’ve participated in, such as canvassing in this recent election, but I’m not writing my entire common app here haha

Congrats to everyone accepted, I am really jealous that you all have heard! I hope I hear by tonight, its encouraging that people are still getting good news! Also I found out through research that a few people have been denied/ wait listed/ deferred already, so at least hearing on the 15th doesnt mean an auto rejection

I should mention before you call me out on being some kind of snobby jerk that I am exceedingly happy that I got accepted to Tulane and got a large merit aid package, I’ve just been really depressed lately. I got sent home from school day because I almost passed out due to exhaustion, which is never a good thing.

And I agree with oneofsix, congrats to everyone accepted, regardless off merit aid or whether you believe you barely made the cusp as some are saying, you still managed to be in the top 25% of applicants (judging from their acceptance rates)

Congrats neuroparty and everyone else. Good luck to everyone still waiting.

How do you think it will pan out?

Actually it didn’t sound like that to me at all. Seemed matter-of-fact and quite reasonable. You have an amazing resume with some great experiences, although I have to agree with you it sounds exhausting! But you will be unbelievably well prepared for college I think.

I still think that if Tulane is someplace you are seriously considering, then after you get your first semester grades (assuming they are good) you should talk to your Tulane admissions counselor about your exact situation. Self-promotion is not always, or even not usually, a bad thing when done at the right times and in moderation. If you are going to visit Tulane and can talk to them in person, even better. But if you are almost surely going somewhere else, then it is rather moot.

I just got my University of Arizona Honors College acceptance letter. It seems so silly now compared to Tulane.

Mavitale–I am BEYOND happy for you and your son…a long-awaited, joyous thing! And I would give anything to have seen your son’s reaction.

Congrats to sdstar and others I may have missed…this thread moves so quickly.

I checked Gibson earlier today and it said DS’s app was complete. So now we join throngs of others in waiting mode. I am a tiny bit more hopeful hearing some of the stats that are similar to my sons.

He applied SCEA to Tulane and is wanting the best, but prepared for the worst.

Thanks jozuko…still waiting - realistically, it can’t be good at this point but still hopeful!

Bloomy - given the number of people that got in during the last two days that were in a similar situation as you, of course it can be good.

Neuroparty- " but I always knew that I should’ve just gotten straight A’s in easy classes"
I would have to strongly disagree with you. These challenging course will only help you in the future because I am sure you learnt a lot about time management and work ethics, which will certainly help you in college and later on in life. Your GPA and ACT are stellar and having those stats in hard classes is awesome! I thinks you made the right choice

Mavitale - WOW Congratulations! I’m really happy for you and your son. I wish u could have youtubed it!!

Great news to sdstar and hang in there Bloomy (I have a good feeling!)

Dd visited Tulane last weekend - loved it. I will post the details in the other thread.

Thanks everyone… it was really fun to see his reaction! He’ll be logging into the chat session tonight! :)

Good luck to those still waiting. It’s so great to have this community!

hey guys, for those of you that may now know here is the link for the chat session that is being held from 7-9 eastern time

I have never logged on to a chat - ok to join late, leave early and just observe?

DD status went back to complete- I was hoping for a different outcome. Someone is our area just got accepted. ( Posted on facebook) The waiting continues!

Is the chat only for accepted students? I don’t know about them. ( I’m showing my age)

Reyshar - yes to all.

Oliver - it is for anyone interested in Tulane. You can even ask them about the problems with Gibson.
