I have the blank screen as well. I’m hoping for the best for all of us still waiting. It is certainly an exciting time. Good luck to all!

Yeah, good luck all! It seems a lot of people have the blank screen for the application status, so let’s hope it is good news and not just a software update.

I was already accepted and my “congratulations” message now shows a blank screen. Nothing to worry about, it’s affecting everyone on the Gibson website. Doesn’t reflect a decision on your application.

Thanks oliver, so glad they have been useful.

Your daughter’s stats are very solid, certainly in Tulane’s “wheelhouse”. For example, their 25-75% ACT is 29-32, so she is in the upper end of that range, probably around the 67th percentile. If she did a good “Why Tulane” statement and can/has expressed interest in other ways (did she attend a local Tulane presentation or visit campus? If not there are other things she can do still), and of course if she has good EC’s, service, and recommendations, then I would think her chances are very good. Not a slam dunk, but significantly better than even, I would think. Again, that assumes everything else is in order. Also that she took a fairly challenging course load, with a decent number of honors and AP courses, assuming her school offers them.

So having said all that, I would think at this point you might be looking at the end of the month to hear back. But really hard to predict. They might surprise you and let you know in 2 weeks, or it might not be until close to the Dec. 15 deadline. But in the past, an app received Nov 1 that was a good candidate usually heard in 3-4 weeks.

Darn I was hoping it meant something good! Haha. Still hoping for the best though…

jilldmd - Congrats to your son (and you of course!) for the acceptance and terrific scholarship. Just based on UW GPA and ACT, he should seriously consider applying for both the DHS and Paul Tulane scholarships, which are full tuition. A lot of work applying for both, since they involve a project and essays, respectively. But then, full tuition for 4 years! Anyway, hope he is considering it.

Since I submitted my app 2-3 weeks ago but it wasn’t marked as complete until yesterday, do you think I would hear a decision at the end of the mont too? I was reading last year’s applicants’ decisions and many who received their decisions in early December were deferred… I got everything in as quickly as I possibly could so I hope it wasn’t so late that it woul hurt my chances.

As long as you submit your app before the deadline, when you submit it shouldn’t affect your admissions decision. From the date that my app was marked from completed it took about 1.5-2 weeks for a decision.

I don’t think it matters, actually. Tulane is very confident they will have plenty of applications from lots of great students, so there is no real reason for them to change their acceptance criteria just because an app came in later. I think the reason you see so many getting the deferred message towards the end is because Tulane was just taking second looks at lots of them, since they were obviously borderline for whatever reason (stats, lack of demonstrated interest, etc.). But I also know quite a few got their app in just under the deadline and got a thumbs up by the notification date.

Thanks for your reply. It’s just hard not to be extremely anxious and nervous as I’m sure you know!

Yes, everyone here is a student/parent of a student so of course we share your anxiety. Is Tulane your first choice?

Thank you FC. I greatly appreciate your advice and insight.

Of course! But while this probably won’t help, you should feel very good about the fact (and it is almost always a fact) that you will have a great college career wherever you end up, because while schools can be very different they very nearly all have something great to offer. Besides, as I have said before it is completely out of your hands now. So try to relax and whatever happens with Tulane, you will be just fine.

Yes Tulane is definitely my first choice. Up until mid October I wasn’t even planning on applying to a school as good as Tulane, just the honors programs at in-state universities. Their bowling program and the school itself suddenly sounded like an amazing opportunity for me.

I will try to relax a bit. You are right. It is out of my hands now.

Hey FC, just wondering what do you do? You seem very knowledgeable about Tulane. I think we all here appreciate the input you have to offer.

Thanks Hugo. I am a Tulane alum and a Tulane parent, the latter for at least for another year. I don’t work for Tulane, if that is what you are asking. I just had such a great experience there that I have always been an enthusiastic alum. I have always kept up with everything going on at Tulane, even before there was a CC. Then when I saw this site, I also saw there were some terrible misconceptions about Tulane and New Orleans being promulgated, especially post-Katrina. So I started putting in my two cents, and 7,000 or so posts later here we are.

Even though I am certainly biased in favor of Tulane, I do try to be fair and largely objective. Definitely Tulane has things they could do better, as does every school. When I think Tulane would be a bad choice for a student, or that another school would be a better fit, I certainly say so. But mostly I have been able to accumulate a pretty thorough knowledge of how Tulane works, the different offerings and departments, and the various extras that Tulane and New Orleans uniquely offer. For people that are just finding out about Tulane (or again, any school) that can be pretty overwhelming! So I do enjoy helping out when I am able. It’s a fun “hobby” for me that also happens to allow me to give back to my alma mater in a way besides money.

Yeah, and it is great you are able to volunteer your time to help parents and students alike navigate the college search. I have been a lurker for a while, and I can really tell your enthusiastic about Tulane. That is what I am searching for in a college - a strong alum base that loves their school and still has pride even years later. At the “Tulane Comes to you” event I could really tell from the alum there that they love Tulane.

Which one did you attend? And yes, I think you will find that alums that love Tulane REALLY love Tulane. I think what makes it more interesting is that it isn’t based on sports. I am sure that alums from Michigan, Notre Dame, North Carolina, etc. are proud alums for reasons in addition to sports, but one also cannot argue that sports is a big piece of that. Maybe Tulane will have some strong major sports teams besides baseball again in the future. But if you look at the comments from people that visited Tulane last year and before, you will see how they note that they see more students wearing Tulane clothing than they see at other corresponding schools they have visited, and how completely enthusiastic current students were about Tulane. When the major sports teams have largely performed poorly, that says something about everything else the school and the city offer.

I went to the one in NJ.

Yeah, I really got the feeling the alums love Tulane. That is exactly what I want in a college. I hope to be one an enthusiastic alum one day. I plan to go to college to learn and become stronger in academics, so I really do not care about the sports. I’m enthusiastic over the academics available in NOLA.
