Tulane’s bowling program is what initially got me interested in the school and while it is not the best team, it is newly-established and I would be honored to help strengthen the team in the future because of the fact that it is also a really good school. I am glad to hear that it’s not all about sports at Tulane. I cannot wait to hopefully be able to experience this school.

LOL, that is an understatement at the moment, and for lots of prior moments. But, having said that, there is a lot going on in Tulane sports. New on-campus stadium is a certainty, as you have probably read. They just named it today, the Yulman Stadium. Yulman made a fortune as owner of Serta mattresses, and he is on the Tulane board. Donated $15 million towards the new stadium. Tom Benson, the owner of the New Orleans Saints, donated $7.5 million and so it will be called Benson Field. The first year coach, Curtis Johnson, is really bringing the team around and seems to be having success in recruiting. So the future looks bright, and the men’s basketball team also shows promise to at least be competitive. The women’s team is actually very good. Baseball has long been a nationally competitive sport at Tulane. The baseball stadium is awesome.

So while I think Tulane will likely never be about sports the way Kentucky, Ohio State, and many other schools are, as long as they are going to stay in Division 1 they are committed to being more competitive. And that’s OK I think, although I also wouldn’t have minded if they had dropped down to D III like WUSTL and Emory. But once they made the decision to stay in D I, I am glad they are trying to do that in a way where they can perform at a higher level and still have athletes serious about academics.

In the end, though, Tulane is about academics, service, and New Orleans. And that is pretty powerful, IMHO.

I appreciate all of your honest opinions!

If everything is good to go on gibson right now and you are a borderline candidate, how long do you expect me to find out?

Thank you FC. I feel much better now! Not looking for a slam dunk just to be back in the game. She visited Tulane twice (sat in on classes) and was happy with her “Why Tulane?” essay because it felt authentic. So, now…we will just sit and wait and BREATHE every once in awhile.

D was accepted via Gibson on Thursday when I checked around 1:30pm Central!

Now she tells me that a friend received some aid on the letter. In the midst of DD applying for the DHS and PT scholarships, I had forgotten that she may hear about partial money in the acceptance letter. Wonder if that letter will come today?

Also, has anyone heard on the Paul Tulane award? I suppose the DHS decisions are in late Feb. so that they can look at your 1st semester grades, but the PT award info says decisions are rolling. I wish one would roll our way! We roll wave here!!

Tulane is her first choice and has been for about a year and a half.

If her acceptance was not posted until Thursday, I doubt the letter will be there sooner than Monday, maybe a few days later than that. But if you just didn’t notice it until Thursday and it might have been there for a day or two, then who knows.

Part of the reason for the Feb decision on the DHS might be to look at first semester grades, but largely it is because all the Deans review the applications (probably after some initial filtering) including the projects. That takes some time to accomplish. Then they meet to decide the winners, I imagine. Or maybe Dean McLaren makes the final selections. In any case it is a process.

My understanding regarding the Paul Tulane award is that Faye Tydlaska, head of undergrad admissions makes the decisions as to who wins. It does say rolling basis, but I would still think she would want to have all submissions in hand before making any final choices. I guess we will see.

Is anyones status still blank?

Yep mine is blank but now says so I am assuming it’s just going through a process again, like an update or something.
Undergraduate Admissions (2013 Fall) :Incomplete/Items Outstanding

D’s is still totally blank…

Mine is still blank as well.

Mine went blank today.

I am back in the land of the living after 4 and a half days without power, heat, internet, TV, phone and COLLEGE CONFIDENTIAL!!! So happy to see everyone’s acceptances and wonderful merit awards. My heartiest congratulations to everyone, including LINYMOM. For those still waiting, I know how difficult this is. Fingers crossed for all of you. Ah…it’s good to be back!

Congrats on getting power back, Vitrac. We were only out 2 days this year, but last year with Irene it was 5 days I think. Might have even been 6. It is awful, especially since for us no power=no water.

No letter yet?

No letter yet. My neighbors must think I’m waiting for a Publisher’s Clearinghouse check!

Just got my official letter! Offered the $27,000 per year Presidential Scholarship and admission to honors program!! SO beyond excited, I teared up a little My Gibson is blank, so don’t worry if yours is too. Doesn’t mean a thing. Everyone still waiting: have faith!! News will come soon, it’ll be okay!

Tulane was always one of my top choices, but with this offer, it’s looking like I might be in New Orleans next year! Waiting for news from one other school, but if it doesn’t work out with that school, there’s a 99.9% chance I’ll be going to Tulane. Roll Wave!!!

rw2013 - Congrats! No surprise though, your stats are superlative, as is the rest of your resume. Hopefully between the DHS, Community Service Scholarship and the Paul Tulane Award you will get something that takes care of all your tuition. I like your chances, and wish you the best of luck. I am assuming the other school you are waiting on is Vandy?

Thanks, fallenchemist, for the Scholarship info. No letter in today’s mail, but I had checked Gibson at least once a day; so, I do think the decision was posted on Thursday. Will look to get it Monday.

Prayers for those in the Northeast. I noticed College of Charleston extended a Nov 1 application deadline to Monday for those effected by Sandy.

Congrats rw! Great news!

Congrats rw!
