Currently I have taken 3 practice SATs and my scores are 410, 350, 300. What can I do to improve my score?
Thanks,

It’s very difficult

your username makes it seem like you’re some kind of guru

What year are you in high school? The best CR scorers are people who read A LOT and have for years. It is pretty tough to make up ground… But have you studied the SAT blue book section for CR? I think you can also get fiction books that specifically focus on using a lot of SAT vocab. Normally I wouldn’t encourage them, but you have very low scores, so it might help you. Just make sure you actually understand the words you are reading (look up as needed, make flash cards if you need to).

intparent -I am not in high school I have the blue book except I am focusing on Princeton Review. What books do you recommend I should read. I have Direct Hits and am studying from it.

Please be more informative. Are you saying you’re still in middle school, or are you maybe a homeschooler at the equivalent of 10th grade? No one can answer responsibly without being crystal clear on this.

Agreed. If you are in middle school, or even tenth grade, start reading now. A lot. Learning how language fits together and building your vocabulary through reading are what will help you the most. I don’t have specific SAT-vocab books to recommend (we didn’t use them, my kids were voracious readers already), sorry. But I am sure you can search the web and find some.

I am in 8th grade and am taking the March SAT.

Are you taking it for a talent search? My assumption is that you must be good at math. Don’t worry too much about your CR score, I wouldn’t even study for it. But start doing a lot more reading now to get ready for when it counts in a few years.

I am actually taking it so I can take Bio over the summer and then take Chem in freshman year. My scores for practice SATs I have taken are:

1) Math-500, Critical Reading- 410, I did not take writing for this test.
2) Math-460, Critical Reading-350, Writing 320
3) Math-540, Critical Reading- 300, Writing 320
I took two math portions of the SAT and got 430 and 490

You will find from reading different threads out here that it is very difficult to raise your CR in a short period of time. It is MUCH easier to study for math and improve those scores. That is one reason you are not getting a lot of advice… The good news is that you are finding out now you need to kick up your reading time so you have better skills in this area when you most need it for college admissions. One of my kids scored a 740 in CR in 8th grade – not telling you that to make you feel bad, but to show you how much being a reader can help.

Hey can anyone help me with this thread?
