How to increase chances?

It’s always been my dream to go to Brown, but I’m looking over my grades and I’m fairly certain I have no chance. I’m a junior right now and so there isn’t much time left to make things better.

My GPA is a 95% (which I think is about a 3.9 but I’m not sure)
I haven’t taken the SAT/ACT yet but I’m getting a tutor in the hopes that I can boost my score.
In my freshman year I had a C for a semester of Earth and Space science, and in my sophomore year I had a C+ for a semester of Algebra II. This year I’ve had pretty solid grades except for Precalc, which I have a B- in for S1. These bad grades were mostly due to personal events, but my school is also very competitive and the math teachers aren’t very good.

I’ve done volunteering and extracurricular things, but at this point is there anything you could recommend I do in order to increase my chances? I’m willing to do anything at this point because I want more than anything to attend Brown.

Write BlackLivesMatter 1000 times in your application

I got into Brown with a lower overall GPA, but with no C’s on my transcript. What does your overall weighted GPA look like? What are the ECs you do? Standardized tests may be the chance for you to get a leg up. What’s your class rank?

Essays are also important, as are recs.

@2017journalismhopeful My overall weighted GPA is about a 3.9. I’ve taken mostly all honors and AP classes, and this year my classes are APLit, Spanish IV, H Pre-calc, H Chem, APUSH, chorus, and APBio. I’m planning on getting a tutor in order to prepare for the SAT/ACT but I don’t have any scores as of now.

For my extracurriculars, I’ve been in many clubs such as the photography club, gardening club, theatre company, and dream factory for all my high school years (so far). I’ve also been on the math team, science olympiad, science bowl team, and i’ve participated in the science fair. For chorus, I’ve been in the allstate and district 2 select choirs for all eligible years.

What did your GPA/SATs/ACTs look like when you applied? Did you end up going to Brown?

I got into Brown with a C on my transcript, and a lower overall UW GPA. But that was one C, and I had good test scores to help make up for it (I think). If you have been getting straight As since your two slip-ups, you should be OK. Do well on your SATs, write killer essays and secure recommendation letters that will knock the admissions officers’ socks off.

As for ECs, being in many clubs is not really going to mean anything, unless you had leadership roles within those organizations.

@C11Hg1 your scores and classes look good! what are your leadership positions in your ecs? my uw gpa was a 3.88 and w 4.7. my act was a 35 and sat was a 1570 on the new sat. i personally think my essays are what gave me an edge - brown requires a number of supplements and they’re a really good chance to make yourself stand out.

At the top schools like Brown one aspect of your application does not make up for weakness in other areas. They have a lot of high performing S to choose from. It is they choose you not you choose them. I am sure you will be applying to match schools because your stats are really good but take the chance at the reaches because your essay my wow them.
