how to tell my parents?

I am in the eighth grade, and I reallly realllly want to apply for the idyllwild arts academy next year for 10th grade. I kinda want to go next school year, cuz apparently they're still accepting applications but since I dont have a portfollio put together, it sounds pretty unrealistic. my problem is that.. my parents dont know! I want to tell them but im soo scared. and I know if I don't tell them I wont be able to apply and I wont know if I could have gotten in.
heres the main question

Does anyone have advice on how to tell my parents..especially my mom that I want to go to an arts boarding school?

you know, just like some way to bring it up?

I REALLLY REALLY want this.. I just love the arts so much..and I know I can do a lot of stuff here too, and theres stuff at my school too, but it just seems so much better there! just the idea of having a whole afternoon devoted to art or music, then being around people that love it just as much as I do.. cause where I am, Ive never really met many people who love art like me, and I feel kinda alone sometimes. like there are peole that are good at it, but they aren't passionate about it.

I would try to be pretty straightforward about it. Maybe just one afternoon tell your mom there’s something you wanted to ask about, and then just start talking about it. Don’t go too intense, or she might think you’re shoving it down her throat. But if it’s something you really care about, you should go after it, and your parents should be supportive about it.

OMG!!! My friend just applied and her mom won’t let her go until 10th grade… Well whichever you choose, I think that you’ll make it in next year also. Are you sure this isn’t peyton?

lol not peyton

Ditto Sirensong…

Realistically 10th grade admission is the soonest possible admission; that gives you only 6 months to convince your parents, research and visit schools, put a portfolio together, get your grades and SSAT scores up, and complete thoughtful applications. BS admissions is not a whim accomplished on a weekend; the process takes up to a year of steady activity and planning.

toadstool, you might be right here, but my son didn’t think about applying to BS until November last year when decided to take the SSAT that month, thought he did well on that exam and then started writing away for apps. He probably would have done better on his apps if he had gotten started earlier, but he did well enough: got into 4 schools, waitlisted at 4 others and rejected at 1. He plans to attend Hotchkiss this fall. The trick here, at least for us, was to make the decision to apply to BS and then go all in. The time is not as important as the commitment.
