@ReturningFavor I have a question if you don’t mind. Does the Presidential Scholarship cover any health insurance fee the school charges? I have an HMO in CA so I’m pretty sure she’ll be required to have the school health insurance and I was wondering if that’s covered since I’ve heard it can be up to $2,000/yr.
@MSHopeful I believe that HU automatically adds the insurance into tuition and fees. I have never seen/received information on how to waive it. It runs, I think, July 1-June 30 (or August 1-July 30). That mandatory fee is covered by the scholarship. The scholarship covers all fees except for one (I think it might be the globalization fee???).
So, the insurance is yours without additional cost. We also confirmed that D’s doctor at home accepted the HU insurance (some form of United HealthCare Ins) . I never looked further into it, but my son at a different university is given the option to waive his student health insurance if we provide proof of coverage elsewhere. I have not known HU to do this. I think that all students are billed for health insurance, whether they want it or not, and the tuition and fees of the full ride cover this.
As a side note, my D chose CHN (the new dorm) and we had to pay a bit for that as it was more expensive than what the scholarship covered for room (a double a less expensive dorm). I also think they (all students) can get their teeth cleaned at the dental school for free. Just found that out because D will miss her 6 month cleaning here at home and promised she’d get it done there!
@ReturningFavor Thanks so much. I was looking at the website earlier and I did see it cannot be waived but I couldn’t find the price. I guess if it’s rolled into the tuition that makes sense. That’s awesome that it is covered by the scholarship. Good to know we can upgrade the dorm and pay the difference if wanted.
@ReturningFavor One more question (sorry!). I know the scholarship includes a laptop…how does that work? Do they give you a specific one, or do they just give you an amount to purchase your own?
@MSHopeful PM’d you but also…In D’s incoming freshman year there was a choice of 2 laptops. However, be aware that they did not choose the laptop until after orientation and did not get it until around the 2nd or 3rd week of class. Lots of borrowing and hustling to the iLab (computer lab) and library early on. Moral of the story? Send an old clunker with your kid for use until the laptop is distributed (and by the way, I thought someone last year posted that now students on the scholarship get a 2k toward a laptop, not the actual laptop. Not sure it that is true).
@ReturningFavor Thanks so much. She has an old one that is missing keys and super heavy (lol) that she can take just in case. I appreciate the info. BTW, I didn’t get a PM.
I applied ED & got in & will be attending.

@Bison21 have you received any scholarships?
also has anyone gotten their acceptance packet?
@selxx23 Haven’t received the packet yet.
Hey I have not personally but I know others have been notified if they’ve gotten the presidential scholarship, full rides, etc. Imma send you the link of the HU21 Twitter account and if you scroll down to some of the earlier post you’ll see people have gotten emails related to scholarship info.
I just found this out recently, but from what I know they usually send it in the pack. Maybe they’re doing something different this year? Idk.

Does any body have any clue as to when the second round of acceptance emails will be sent to students?
I just finally got my transcript out to Howard and am awaiting an acceptance soon. So I just have two questions.

Is there still any scholarship money left? I qualify for the Fonders’ Scholarship with an SAT score of 1420 and a GPA of 3.89, but if that check don’t come I’m gonna have to check out.

Does Howard accept IB credits and if so how many classes can I get credit for if I got at least a 5 in History HL, English HL, and Physics SL?
@BrothermanZ This is what it says on the Howard website
"Howard University will evaluate and award course credits for an IB examination score, based on the following criteria. • Submission of an IB certificate directly to the Office of Admissions • Score of 4 or better on IB exam will result in awarding credits for the first level of the course • Score of 5, 6, or 7 –award first and second levels of the course (e.g. Biology Higher Level score of 5, 6, or 7 and receive credit for BIOL 101 and 102 "
How long does it take for Howard to evaluate your application?
Hi everyone!! I am an international student and have been accepted with a Founders Scholarship. I can view it on Bisonweb but I cannot accept the award even if I have accepted the terms and conditions. There is no button to accept award. And has anyone got their official acceptance packet yet?
Hi guys,
Do you receive confirmation when Howard has received your app? I sent my off about a week ago and I’m sure it’s complete but I just want to make sure!
Thanks.
@froaxo no, I got a general email but they dont have anything that lets you know if your application is complete. they would probably email you if your application is incomplete.
Send an email to be sure, everyone is just coming back from break and I emailed Dec 17th, heard back from them Jan 12th, and just got my acceptance email today! So send an email to be sure.
